Great Denham parkrun

I just finished a 5.086km running that lasted about 0hh:25mm:35ss !

It has been a bit of a comedy of errors this weekend. I was looking to do the Wimpole Estate parkrun, but I noticed at the last minute that is was cancelled due to a muddy carpark. So I decided to do Great Denham again. I got there okay and used the Park & Ride carpark that is a short walk from the start. I met some people from Milton Keynes who had not been there before, but half way there I realised I had left my barcode in the car. So I had to job back for that. Then I managed to get a bit lost in the maze of streets around that new development and made it to the start in time to see the tail walker disappearing up the path.

I was not going to abandon my run and so set off after them. It was a nice morning, but had a headwind up the back stretch. It is a flat, very open course. By the end of the first lap I had moved up through the field and made more ground on the second. I lapped the tail walker near the end. They were with a lady who could not walk fast, but at least she is getting out there. Considering my late start I did well to finish 139th of 271. My phone clocked me at 26 minutes, so I must have been about 3 minutes late starting.

Strava reckons I was actually under 25 for 5km. I have had that on Endomondo too, but I seek an official time to confirm it.

You may notice in the picture that I wore a Steem shirt. I am not sure anyone noticed, but then I did not chat much. I had to get home for other chores.

@exhaust managed to sync the Strava run data this time, but I had to re-connect it. It will pull in the description you have used there, but I write more for Steem anyway. There is a Steem Runners group on Strava with 32 members.

Comedy value!

I'm sure this has already occurred to you, but next time go get your barcode AFTER your run, you've got a good 30 minutes at least to get there and back!

I could have done that, but it was a fairly long walk back. Just need to be better prepared next time.

Nice run! I like that shirt in your photo

That's from Steemfest 3. One of several Steem shirts I have.

It’s going to happen- next week- you will break the 25 mins barrier!

I really hope to get there soon. I've got so close a couple of times. It helps to have a course that is easier to run.

Well done you, always jealous of you runners. I'm just a slow walker really, though @winstonalden can take a year off and then just get up and run a 5k like that, not me.

Keep running and good on ya.

Cheers. I am impressed with how far I've come. In my mid-40s I'd struggle to run for a few minutes and now I can go out for an hour or more. I do enjoy it. Gets me outside and away from screens for a while.

...and enjoy a good recovery !BEER .

Not much worse than a muddy area when you are not expecting it. My wife and I took a walk a while ago to a new park. I was thinking the ground would be frozen and there wouldn't be any issue but about a quarter of the way through our walk we were stuck in the middle of a muddy mess. Our best option was to just power through it instead of cutting our walk short.

This run is all on hard paths, so no mud to deal with. Its a shame I couldn't record a proper time. Some people seem to enjoy a muddy run, but I don't really. That said, it's good to have some variety.
