EXMO crypto exchange has stopped withdrawing funds after a successful hacker attack

Cryptocurrency exchange EXMO today issued a notice of " suspicious activity related to the withdrawal of funds." Against this background, the platform blocked outgoing transfers, and subsequently confirmed the fact of a successful hacker attack on its wallets.

According to the company, large withdrawal requests were made from 05: 27 Moscow time. "We are still investigating the incident, but at the moment, the results of the security audit show that some amounts in BTC, XRP, ZEC, USDT, ETC and ETH, which were in EXMO's hot wallets, were withdrawn from the exchange. Affected hot wallets account for about 5% of total assets. We emphasize that cold wallets remain safe, " she adds.

At the same time, EXMO assured users that all losses from this incident will be compensated from its own funds. She also asked other services and exchanges to block assets coming from the following addresses:

EXMO's chief operating and financial officer Sergey Zhdanov wrote on Twitter that they managed to track the movement of some of the stolen assets to the Poloniex exchange. At the time of publication, at least 310 BTC ($7 million) remains on these addresses. At least 867 ETH ($525,000) went to Poloniex wallets. The company does not specify the amount of the loss. The specified usdt and XRP addresses belong to Poloniex itself.

Currently, the search for the causes of the incident continues. EXMO notified the London police about the incident. The company asks users not to make deposits to its wallets until further notice.

According to CoinGecko, EXMO ranks 53rd in daily adjusted trading volume with a value of $46 million. The exchange was founded in 2013 and, according to its own statement, has offices in London, Kiev, Barcelona, Moscow and Istanbul.
