Yeah, you can do that.
In fact, 2015 was the year when over 4200 Americans decided to cut off Uncle Sam. That is a nearly twentyfold increase since 2006 (less than 300 people that year).
But let's have an outline of what kind of sums of money we're talking about.
Well, the procedure costs a world-record $2350, so unless you have to give away tens and hundreds of thousands in taxes on a yearly basis, becoming a non-american doesn't make much sense (we aren't considering family factors and the like). By the way, in Singapore it costs a measly 27 dollars, in Malaysia it's 4 and in Chile, Japan, Sweden it's free.

Eduardo Saverin, one of Facebook's four co-founders, renounced his U.S. citizenship back in 2012. It's not clear, however, whether he did it to avoid hefty taxes since he hasn't confirmed this popular assumption. But come on!
I guess some of you will call it unpatriotic behavior and dub the "tax evaders" greedy. Well, I have an argument to counter that. The thing is - the US is the only country besides Eritrea which taxes their citizens who reside in other countries. That means that those citizens face double taxation since they're also obligated to pay taxes in their country of residence. How's that for motivation?
Mayor of London Boris Johnson was born in the US but lived in Great Britain since he was 5 years old. His desire to become a full-time Brit was fueled by a nice 100.000-pound bill from the IRS after he sold a house in London for a 730.000-pound profit. Yeah, let me give the government of a country I've never really lived in a hundred gees out of good manners - said no man ever.
So what do you think?
Is it worth giving up the redwhiteandblue to keep more fruits of your labor?
Or is it amoral to deprive your country of the means to develop its infrastructure by hogging every penny you can get your scrooge-mcducky hands on?
