Traveling more appears on a majority of people's list of New Year's resolutions. Most of the time people plan to travel around the world. They wish to scratch more and more countries off their bucket lists. Rarely do people ever take advantage of the city they live in.
I am one of those people. I dream about going around the world to see different things and meet interesting people. While spending time with some friends from out of town, it appeared to me that I do not go out and explore my own city, but am constantly wanting to go to different countries around the world. After going home that day I changed my New Year's resolution. Instead of saying I wanted to travel more, I said I wanted to explore the city around me. I made a list of hidden nooks and corners in my own city. I learned that my own city has so much to offer. There are so many interesting people and places waiting for me to find them.
I challenge everyone to make a list of things in their own city that they could do. Go find people and learn their story. The world is out there and waiting for you to explore it. Start in your own city. 
Find the beauty in the simple things around you.
