Negative Externalities the result of Unbridled CapitalismsteemCreated with Sketch.

Why are urban areas in decay? Why are teachers on strike? Why are our air, streams, and lands polluted? Why is our food system synthetic garbage? Why is healthcare so expensive? Why is racism still so prevalent?

These are all issues affecting a civilization that socially is little past the dark ages. For a culture that loves to throw around and morph the term “modernity” into many facets of it social life, in reality too many areas are still more stone age than new age. In the center of all this bustling activity is capitalism, a wonderful motivating force that unleashes competition, greed, and activity, but at what cost?

Capitalism is an extractive and consumptive force, with that no one can argue. Capitalism is a good kick in the ass for getting a backwards and benighted society off the mat to start producing and developing things to increase material abundance and improve quality of life from barnyard shacks to suburban dwellings, no doubt. In the process many are enriched and many, many left behind. It is winner take all to a shrinking pool at the top. However in this process capitalism starts to consume itself, a monster that persists in the destructive orgy until all four corners of the globe are polluted and materially exhausted. We are more than 50 years overdue for a reframing of our values but the vast majority continue down the slope, often because they have no choice or are convinced to do so by the master-slave rhetoric of the oligarchs.

As things get worse, institutions ossify, the overhead of calamity grows, and viewpoints narrow the change becomes more difficult to enact, and likely more bloody, as resilience is squeezed out of the system. So all the things you see currently, all the negative externalities around the crises in healthcare, education, environment, social groups, races, food stuffs, and so on, these are outgrowths of the negative byproducts of the system. For too long society has worshipped money while being too silent on the need for greater goals, objectives, and visions for humanity at large. Money cares not for people, and when we worship the golden cow many of us are destined for the slaughter. Too many in the world are suffering due to greed and the system of extractive tribute that the oligarchs receive, paid in blood.
