Saying alt coins will die off is as dumb as saying, we only need 1 company in the US to do everything.
Every alt coin will fullfill a certain niche, the ones that survive at least.
I don't believe will ever have one blockchain that's mass adopted. It means too much control.
We'll have niche chains, and they will tie in together like a web. Kinda like Local networks tie into the world wide web.
There'll probably be only couple that will be huge, like Microsoft and Apple. And we probably have our two already, Ethereum and EOS. They both can and will have their own versions of Steem eventually.
I'm not saying there won't be any alt coins anymore, I'm saying they will be operating on blockchains like Ethereum or EOS.
Perhaps you should look up on Ethereum if you're used to EOS or Steem goverment style only.
There are few who will survive in bigger scale, I think. Like Factom. And thanks to Polkadot it can interact with Ethereum or other blockchains.
But you can believe what you want, and so will I. I believe majority of alt coins will die ( Steem being one of them if no changes happen ), and the best of them will be replicated on blockchains like Ethereum.
