Britain GP 2019 Practice Session Analysis

in f1 •  5 years ago

It will be an eventful Sunday in United Kingdom this week, as three major sports events British Grand Prix, ICC World cup and Wimbledon will decide its winner. Silverstone, Northamptonshire, the current home of British Grand Prix has decided to host Formula 1 racing for the next five years by signing a new deal early this week. Silverstone is one of the classic European circuit in the race calendar which hosted the first race in the year 1948. It is one of the peculiar tracks in the calendar with fast, sweeping corners. Each corner has a unique name starting with Abbey, Farm, Village, The Loop, Aintree, Brooklands, Luffield, Copse, Maggots, Becketts, Chapel, Stowe, Vale and Club. The third DRS zone introduced last year as a part of improving overtaking has been removed in this year.

Practice 2

Most of the drivers were affected by the windy conditions at Silverstone. Despite the conditions, Mercedes seems to be the team to beat in terms of one lap pace and long runs. Considering one lap pace, Ferrari was the best in sector 1 timing and an average in sector 2. However, their timings in sector 3 doesn’t look good and both cars ended 6th and 7th in sector 3 timings. In terms of long run pace, Red bull ‘s Verstappen looks strong. As the session ended, Bottas was the fastest man with the lap time of 1:26:732 followed by Hamilton and Leclerc with the gap 0.069 seconds and 0.197 seconds respectively.
Here is the simple analysis of the session for the lap timings clocked under 94 seconds. The analysis kept me thinking will Ferrari change the game overnight?

Practice 3

The first 30 minutes of the session was affected by rain and few teams have tried their laps on intermediate tyres. The weather seems to be unpredictable and there are chances of rain during the qualifying session. Based on the data, Practice 3 gave a different picture for Ferrari and seems to have improved in all three sectors .However It will be difficult to predict the pole position. Based on collected data, Vettel and Hamilton are strong contenders for pole position.
It was interesting to note that Gasly had good consistency and his performance seems to have improved. Renault will be on a tight fight with the McLaren.

Here is the simple analysis of the session for the lap timings clocked under 96 seconds.
