Facebook Messenger Kids, messaging for children under parental protection

Most social networks allow access to users who are at least 13 years old, but Zuckerberg wants to give the possibility to take part of the functions also for children under that age. Facebook Messenger Kids is the children's version of one of the most used messaging platform in the world, and is currently being rolled out in the United States.
Parents can create profiles for their children in their account, and then configure them in their smartphone or tablet. The profiles, of course, will be managed and controlled by the same parents through the personal Facebook account. To create the app, Facebook has collaborated with several parents, child safety professionals and consultants on the subject, and also with organizations such as National PTA and Blue Star Families.

In this way it was decided the approach to be used with the delicate application, naturally promising that it will not collect children's data even for advertising purposes (which it does with applications for adults). In terms of features Facebook Messenger Kids is not much different than the basic version: children can in fact send text, audio notes and video. It supports image filters and emojis specially chosen for children.

Facebook Messenger Kids is roll-out for devices with iOS in the United States, with the release "expected" for the Android version. We do not know yet if the functionality will be expanded in the rest of the world.1.jpg
