If you haven't already noticed, Facebook copies what its competitors are doing or buying and then integrating their services into their own platform.
That seems to be the problem. The US company is suspected of having bought companies and products that it sees as potential future competitors.
The Federal Trade Commission (the FTC, which fined $ 5 billion from Mark Zuckerbeg's company) has expanded an investigation into Facebook to see if the company's acquisitions were not meant to remove potential rivals from the market.
FTC officials have already started talking to the founders of some of the startups Zuckerberg's company has bought over the years. But they will have something to work on. Over the past 15 years, Facebook has bought almost 90 companies. You've probably only heard of a few.
How Facebook decides what kind of startups to buy
Among the most notable acquisitions made by Zuckerberg's company are Instagram and WhatsApp, two essential products for the social network.
Facebook would not have bought startups at random, but used special software to identify startups that were developing high-potential programs. So, Facebook management could see the growth trend of a startup / app and decide if they could become a rival to Facebook.
They used this technology, which they purchased from Onavo Mobile in 2013, to decide whether to buy WhatsApp in 2014.
The company officials say that the purchases actually helped the innovation process and allowed the purchased products to develop as otherwise they could not, ultimately giving more options to the users.
Anyway, Facebook will be investigated again by the FTC and it will be interesting to find out what else it discovers. What do you say? Does he get another fine of billions?
