New Facebook Page STEEMIT NEWBIES Launched To Help Facebookers Switch To Steemit

The STEEMIT NEWBIES Facebook Page is now a thing.

Here's the Page: https://www.facebook.com/steemitnewbies

A brand-new Facebook Page called STEEMIT NEWBIES has been launched in order to provide personalized help to those who are still in the Facebook world, but who want to learn and shift to Steemit. There are many Steemit Facebook groups already in existence, but most are just a place where people post their links. They have quite low user engagement because most everyone in them is trying to figure out how to get their posts noticed. So, they just post links, which in the end just creates a lot of noise, to be totally honest. Meaningful discussions are absent in these Steemit Facebook groups.

So, in order to fill the void that currently exists in the area of helping newbies understand Steemit and address their valid questions and concerns, the Steemit Newbies Facebook Page has been launched.

It is designed to help those who need it.

And if there is one place I understand really well, it is Facebook. I've created many business Facebook Pages for entrepreneurs and activists as well. I used to be a Facebook addict.

While I realize it might be a pipe dream to ask people not to just post their links in Steemit Newbies, if people can ask specific questions, then more people can engage and learn while they're in a comfortable environment: Facebook.

Going where people already are and addressing their true questions, concerns and frustrations can, hopefully create more user retention on Steemit.

I'm willing to spend my time trying to help people with their concerns, questions and frustrations, as I think Steemit will gain a better understanding of why people choose to leave Steemit for Facebook.

Everyone can bash Facebook as much as they want, but the reality is that people have returned there after abandoning Steemit. I want to figure out a way to help people come back. I'm working on 3+ projects right now at once in Steemit, and so if I get swamped trying to deal with the Steemit Newbies Facebook Page, I will ask for help for other admins. Right now, the traffic is low since it was just created. I like helping others learn so this is something I enjoy doing.

And there is one more reason to develop it: once Steemit creates communities, this group can transfer over here, and create a nice, cozy, comfortable place inside Steemit where newbies can help each other learn. Additionally, I've given my proposal to teach a Steemit class to high school students through the public library system. I have taught classes on YouTube for these after school library classes and one of my friends works as a planner for these classes. I am waiting to hear back from her. The Facebook Page would be very helpful in addressing students' needs as they learn about Steemit in my future class. I hope that the library director approves it.

Today, there was one question to which I don't have the answer:

Is Steemit planning on supporting native file formats like: .AVI, .MP3, .MPEG in the future? If you have the answer to this, please comment below so I can transfer the answer over.

Thanks for your attention,
Stellabelle

ps- oddly enough, @barrydutton has also created a Steemit Facebook page with a similar, almost identical mission.

pss- If Steemit Inc wants to change the branding or whatever, let me know. I just used the baby and neutral design because I know everything is changing.

I've invited several FB people, some that had asked me for directions in getting onto Steemit and others who I think will enjoy what Steemit offers. I'm directing them to your newbies page because you're an ace with engagement.

As far as supporting native file formats for video, right now like you said you can only embed video (youtube, vimeo, etc) on Steemit, not upload those videos natively. If/when they do support hosting video, I'd imagine they'd support a number of formats or at least the most popularly used ones.

thanks for answering the question for the facebook page. I know the user is here in steemit and to add the absurdity of cross-linking, posting, I just posted the link to this page in the Facebook page! Absurd!

Solid initiative. Hope it generates some value and brings new people to the platform.

Thank you. I certainly hope it does too. It would also be a great place for Steemit polls since that tech is already fleshed out. Using the tools we have for free to siphon off as many people here......since 2017

excellent! Are you a big Facebook user?

I just use it to keep intouch with family and close friends.

me as well, plus, I like to go through people's photos too........
it's like a giant rolodex...

I'll post a newbie tip to get things going.

ok great.

Fantastic initiative!
I have a few friends on FB who have been pestering me to give them a breakdown of what Steemit is all about. Among my FB friends I have gained the reputation for telling the truth and "how it is", and so they trust my opinion.
So I tell them they should just join and they will not regret it. However, such is the power of the FaceBook algorithm bubble, that they feel scared of bursting this bubble. So they are either skeptical, nervous or hesitant of change.
People are creatures of habit.
I will surely directall I know on FB to this newby page.
I am still battling with myself if I should write a post an explanation anyway?
The only reason why I dont is because I hate the idea of putting content on FB. Steemit has done that to me, lol!
Another factor that I think will be Steemits biggest problem is.. Ease of use.
I find Steemit easy to use but it took a bit of work and patience to feel comfortable, and even then I still made mistakes weeks later. The concept is so revolutionary that at first you are overwhelmed a little. After while and we become used to the platform is is easy to forget this. Like when we first get in a car to learn to drive. At first, 5mph feels like 50mph, but then after while we forget how nervous we were at the beginning.
At the moment FBs tools are very easy to understand and to use. Anyone can begin posting and interacting on FB within minutes. Even the most stupid person can use facebook. This is a huge advantage and as we know this is largely why FB has grown so big and so fast. Steve Jobs knew this.and Zuckerberg knows this. Ease of use is vital for success.
Developers are geniuses at making the cogs inside the clock work in perfect synchronization, but I hope when the changes come they also make the front of the clock look amazing so that people want one next to their bedside.
Amazing work that you do @stellabelle and your back ground is obviously a big help.

Steemit really does need a Steve Jobsy-type person to make a big impact. Maybe that person will arrive, or make him or herself known. I think many of us forget that Steemit is a start up and it's bootstrapping its growth. That is a weird concept to most people. You could share the Steemit Newbies page in a post on facebook, so that your curious friends could dabble. I enjoy using all the social tools at my disposal. We are all so spoiled! I can't quit facebook because it's my rolodex and also my photo cloud storage provider.......i have a huge photo archive in there...
thanks for your kind words.
There's a joke that Gavin Andresen said along the lines of "Engineers making tools for other engineers only makes a lot of regular people unhappy."

Well Steemit has captured me now for sure. Today I spent an hour or so just going though the introduceyourself tab and writing "warm welcome to Steemit etc" to many newcomers because this one one of the things that impressed me when I joined. It is such a simple thing but a powerful and one.
It reminds me of how John Lennon fell in love with Yoko Ono. She was an artist having an exhibition in London and she grabbed John at a party and took him to her gallery in the middle of the night. When he went in he saw a step ladder in the middle of the room. He looked up and saw a magnifying glass hanging from the ceiling. He went up the ladder took hold of the magnifying glass and looked up again. He saw a tiny piece of paper glued to the ceiling and used the magnifying glass to be able to read it. It simply said: YES.
Later John said; "Well at least it was positive" lol.
Even so it obviously made a huge impression on him for him to remember it in such detail.
First impressions you know!
I probably will put something on Fb with the newby link.
I had to laugh - I also use FB for a cloud database too lol.
Only thing its good for 😀
Keep up the good work @stellabelle you are an inspiration!

Thanks! Great story too! I love weird, odd things like that in life. Keeps the mysterious part of living alive. Thanks for sharing the link with newbies! They do need our support.

All of your insights are spot on!

Superb article and ideea @stellabelle it would be very cool if Steemit will start to support video files...something like youtube or at least vine.
I would do those types of videos just for Steemit.

what do you mean "support"? You can already embed them. I am confused as to your meaning exactly...

Or do you mean have a site host video files specifically for Steem?

Sorry I was offline...sleeping...uff...

But yeah I was thinking that Steemit can be a platform that we could upload directly a video with no other third party site. For example you recorded something nice or funny or a cooking recipe like me and you just upload it to Steemit.
PS: I checked your facebook group and it is an awesome ideea! If you see me around there -my name is Stefan Dragos Alexandru.

Great! I will look for you. I think in the future, video upload could work...

Great idea ! I dont go on facebook any more , but it would certainly be great to bring more of those guys over here , and then keep them here ! We need to keep them addicted to steemit like I am ! Lol ! And answering their questions from the start , educateing them about the platform will help do that ! Let me know if theres anything I can do to help ! Thanks ! Steeming on !👍I will share the above link as well on facebook !

thanks so much for your support of newbies!

No problem ! I shared it on facebook but i didnt see it show up ! Maybe facebook is blocking us again ! Lol 👍😎

Great idea! Upvoted, followed, resteemed and shared to FB!!!

Thanks so much! I know we can find those facebook addicts and turn them into steemit addicts.

I'm seldom on there anymore...I have friends from college and a bunch of other old people. We post pics of our grandkids, dogs, etc. I keep trying to get them here.

yes, that's about it

This is great! Well done stellabelle!

thanks. I am really excited about it. I had been thinking about it for a while, but honestly, the Roadmap pushed me from thought mode to action mode. I love answering questions.........I used to work at a tech help desk for the B&N Nook device and I loved doing that job. I taught all the old car salesmen the new software when they were struggling, and I've taught a fair amount of old people, artists, etc, how to use photoshop, etc.

Cool! I think you could really help people. What better way to grow Steemit and if you love doing it, well that's the perfect icing :)

Yeah, you could say that I decided to choose myself instead of asking permission to do things.

Great idea!! Thanks for doing it. I wish I could upvote you twice. :)

(Speaking of that, one advantage to a blockchain-based system is that you cannot vote-spam in that way...)

good point. Thanks for your support.

I already quit facebook, and I do not miss it even a little bit!

Good for you! I still have a lot of people who I need to contact there, so I figured I'd use my time wisely in creating a bridge......just like I did when i first joined steemit.

Thank you, I have way more time and less drama in my days now. <3
I feel so blessed to be a part of Steemit, being on Steemit inspired me to leave facebook.

That's great to hear. I'm hooked into steemit now as well, but as a true social media addict, i cannot give any of them up. I'm on twitter a lot too.

I am definitely a social media addict as well, but I don't understand twitter and facebook unispired me, so Steemit, Youtube & IG are my social media now
^.^

i spend little time on facebook, other than using the messaging app, copying my photos, and also running various pages.

i like the idea :)

Great work here. Thank you kindly for your efforts. It will take some of the pressure off me! Upped, re-steemed, tweeted & posted on my FB feed :)

steem doesn't even offer half of the stuff you can do on facebook. what's the idea?
