If you own a computer or device that is able to access the internet, then you would of heard of the Facebook debacle of the past couple of weeks. The world is in uproar that an app developer was able to sell data harvested from Facebook to a company which then used that data to manipulate elections. People feel angry because they never gave direct permission for that data to be used, in most cases it was a friend who gave them that data through their friends list. It has been reported that 87 million accounts may have been harvested, and that's just in this one case.
So how are people reacting? Well there are two camps, the first is deleting their Facebook account and posting about it on instagram (*also owned by Facebook), and the second is sitting back chuckling at the freakouts because they knew how their data was being used. Shouldn't there be a third camp? I've come to the conclusion that the third camp should be made up of people tired of companies making immense profits with their data, and that frustration should be voiced in a demand of PROFIT SHARING!
The same way credit card companies give us cash back on our purchases, our social networks should give us cash back on the data we provide to their network. Technology is cheap, and start ups are more profitable then ever. Overtime we post useful content to Facebook, or twitter, reddit, youtube, Wordpress, or any site on the internet we should receive a share of the profit.
We can see our future being automated before our eyes. Self driving cars are no longer a pipe dream, soon our drivers will be out of a job. 3D printing will soon be taking a dent out of the manufacturing market, and eventually the building market. Amazon and wall mart are killing traditional retail. We need tech to replace jobs instead of just disrupting them. Cash back for digital participation and data can be the basic income of the 21st century, which means that anyone, with any level of education, in any community will have an opportunity to earn some money.
So how do we make this happen? We vote with out data. Remove yourself from social platform and that don't reward you for your content, and tel them why you are doing it. Join platforms that are rewarding you for your content, and keep encouraging them to innovate.
Let's embrace the benefits of new technology, but at the same time create a world where are children will have access to money making opportunities.
Wow, that's interesting!
We recently posted an article about how the community is now requesting for Mark Zuckerberg to step down as CEO from Facebook! This all happened after the scandal with lack of protecting user's privacy. Anyways, go check out the article when you get a chance and let me know what you think👋🏼! I found a recap video of the hearing on Tuesday and posted it also! I'll take you to it so follow me!
