Facebook's new strategy, smart move?

in facebook •  7 years ago

Mark Z. announced that our Facebook feed is going back to be more personal, friends and family oriented, delivering less promoted posts.

In response, Facebook shares dropped dramatically almost immediately, draghing Facebook to a loss of over a billion dollars of worth.

Was it a smart move by Mark?
short term it looks like making mainly damage to the company and investors.
But if looking long term as a strategy, this might be the best decision Facebook took for a long time.
Taking Facebook back to its core of being a social network of friends sharing posts about their life, can bring back users who are tired of the new cold and commercial Facebook wall, gaining back trust and eventually users will spend more time online, those in time will multiply Facebook's power and profits will rise again like never before.
