The panda ant, is a species of Hymenoptera insects, belonging to the family Mutillidae, similar to wasps but without wings. They have a very particular appearance, small black and white hair, for which he was given the name of panda.

In his head they have white hairs, in his black abdomen, and in the rest of his body they are distributed among the black colors including the back.

Thanks to their appearance they can appear tender and harmless, being the opposite, they are very dangerous, the bite is usually very painful, similar to the sting of the wasp, they usually bite their prey more than once.

It is very easy to distinguish sex, although they have the same color, females have a greater number of hairs.

The panda ant feeds mainly on nectar, the interesting thing is that they divide their turn to search for food between females and males. From the morning until two hours before sunset it is the females, and during the night it is the males' turn.

The fact that the males and females work in teams to obtain food for the whole family, makes the panda ants a great example of solidarity and gender equality.

Regarding its reproduction, it is important to point out that the panda ant lays its eggs inside the nests of other animals that already have larvae; with the intention that when their eggs are born, they feed on the larvae that are in the nest, in this way they guarantee the food to their children.

I hope you enjoyed learning about the panda ant.
