Sowing in faith: ´My food,´ said Jesus, is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work. John 4:34

After speaking with the Samaritan woman about the water that gives the true spiritual life, the disciples offered Jesus food; and the master Jesus took advantage of the situation and revealed to his disciples that he was looking for the true spiritual food, which is the spiritual gift of eternal life. The gospel of the apostle John is a profoundly mystical gospel, in fact, the gospel of John is called the gospel of eternal life (John 17:3); Jesus habitually used metaphors that come from daily life to enlighten his disciples in the faith and the spiritual knowledge.
Jesus taught the disciples that the promise of the Father that he had to fulfill is to give the true knowledge to mankind, that is the contemplative life, but the disciples did not understand this truth because they were not filled with the holy spirit, this is the reason of why Jesus gave them this explanation in the gospel of John:
"Meanwhile his disciples urged him, ´Rabbi, eat something.´
But he said to them, ´I have food to eat that you know nothing about.´
Then his disciples said to each other, ´Could someone have brought him food?´" John 4:31-33.
The Kingdom of Heaven, the dominion of God's perfections was coming to its maturity, and the prophecies of the old testament were being fulfilled in Jesus, and what was sowed with the prophets had to be harvested with Jesus and after him, this was the spiritual mission of the disciples, so Jesus revealed to them:
"´My food,´ said Jesus, ´is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work. Don't you have a saying, ´It's still four months until harvest´? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. Even now the one who reaps draws a wage and harvests a crop for eternal life, so that the sower and the reaper may be glad together. Thus the saying ´One sows and another reaps´ is true. I sent you to reap what you have not worked for. Others have done the hard work, and you have reaped the benefits of their labor´" John 4:34-38.
With this, Jesus communicated to the disciples that the providence of God is mysterious and progressive.
