The message of Paul: So that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God's power. 1 Corinthians 2:5

Paul's second missionary journey meant the founding of the first Christian churches in Europe, and in particular the founding of the Church of Corinth, this city was at that time one of the main Greek cities.
And Paul's activity in Corinth had a great particularity, it was the Greek city where he spent the longest time preaching for more than a year, and where he was well received, unlike the cities of Philippi and Thessalonica, cities from which he had to flee by the hostility and the persecution of his enemies.
This is why in the first epistle to the Corinthians the profound influence of Greek philosophy is noticeable, Paul spoke to the believers of the church of a human wisdom coming from Greek culture and, on the other hand, he spoke of the faith in Jesus.
This discrepancy that Paul spoke of, between the Greek thinkers and the doctrine of the Kingdom, would last until the arrival of Saint Thomas Aquinas and Saint Augustine, fathers of the Church and great theologians.
Thus Paul clarified to the receivers of his letter, the intention of his writing:
"My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power, so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God's power" 1 Corinthians 2:4-5.
The apostle Paul wanted to explain that the teachings of our Lord Jesus cannot be reduced to merely rational knowledge or speculation; because the free and merciful action of the Holy Spirit lives in the church, and it is in this truth that the true power of faith resides, above all human wisdom.
The eternal life, which is the contemplative life, cannot be received through the practice of virtue or philosophical study, but rather through the grace of the spirit that leads man to a new birth, as Jesus said: "Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again" John 3:3.
