Paul, a persecutor of Christians converted to faith in our Lord, was with the example of his life a demonstration of the strength of faith. The Book of the Acts of the Apostles tells us that the apostle Paul during the second missionary journey was imprisoned together with Silas in the city of Philippi in the region of Macedonia, for having expelled a divining spirit from a slave who gave much profit to their masters.
The magistrates of the city of Philippi had witnessed a great tumult in the public square and heard the accusation against the apostles: "These men are Jews, and are throwing our city into an uproar by advocating customs unlawful for us Romans to accept or practice" Acts 16:20-21.
And so Paul and Silas were flogged and imprisoned, once in prison the apostles weakened but with great confidence in the Lord sang praises to God, and during the night the earth trembled in such a way that the doors opened and the chains of the prisoners were released, the jailer woke up with a start and seeing the doors open he thought that the prisoners had escaped and tried to take his own life, but Paul rebuked him , and so the jailer in front of the miracle converted to the faith.
In this way the book of Acts tells us about the conversion of the jailer and his family:
"He then brought out and asked, ´Sirs, what must I do to be saved?´
They replied, ´Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.´ Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all the others in his house. At that hour of the night the jailer took them and washed their wounds; then immediately he and all his household were baptized. The jailer brought them into his house and set a meal before them; he was filled with joy because he had come to believe in God—he and his whole household" Ats 16:30-34.
