Jesus teaches us that he is the opposite of oppression:
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light". Matthew 11:28-30

Freedom is born from education, that is, from the teaching of wisdom, wisdom is the knowledge of the correct means to live. It is through the teaching of God's word, the inspired wisdom, that we learn to have a meek and humble heart as Jesus asks.
The faith explains to us, that when we become aware of the importance of a life of piety and mercy through the teaching of wisdom we understand the affirmation: "For my yoke is easy and my burden is light", Matthew 11:30. In other words, we learn to have a light heart that knows how to forgive and find the right path.
The oppression instead, is born of deception and lies and has a consequence, heresy, the teaching of error. That is why Jesus and the early church faced numerous heresies:
a) "Love your neighbor and hate your enemy" in Matthew 5:43 an heresy against the commandment of love;
b)"You have heard that it was said that it was said, "Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth". But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you" Matthew 5:38-42
c)heresy of the simony: "When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the Apostles' hand, he offered them money and said, ´Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.´
Peter answered: ´May your money perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money! You have no part or share in this ministry, because your heart is not right before God´" Acts 8:18-20.
The chains that bind us are often spiritual and we have to choose between a hard heart and a light heart towards God.
