Ever since I became a Hebrew, I’ve really been taking inventory of my life. I’ve been paying close attention to the things I do and what I have in my life.
I’m not sure exactly when it started, but there came a time where I started to catch myself saying “wish” and thinking to myself, “I shouldn’t say that.”
I don’t know about you, but when I think of “wish” and “wishing”, the first thing that comes to my mind is magic. A genie granting 3 wishes, or a fairy waving a wand and making wishes come true. I looked up the word “wish” in the dictionary, hoping to find some confirmation on the magic correlation, but all I found was that “wish” is basically just another word for desire or want.
So why don’t we use those words instead? (If this subject interests you, you can go ahead and do your own research into it, but for me, I’m going to go off conviction.) The Most High tells us over and over again to stay away from witchcraft and things dealing with magic.
Why is it so (very) common for us to say “I wish” something? Last time I checked, God answers prayers, not wishes. Again, I realize this is my conviction, but I hope bringing this up inspires you to take inventory of your life too.
From now on, I’m going to replace “wish” with “want” or “desire” (depending on context), because that’s what I mean when I use “wish” anyways. Why wish for something from some non god, when I can express my wants to my Heavenly Father who listens to His children?
It never seizes to amaze me how much evil has crept into our culture and become normalized and ok, even amongst believers. Be diligent my friends, for even if the end isn’t near, you never know how near your end is. Romans 12:2
I've thought about that too. I wish I would stop using that word. Oops.
The other word is "luck". I don't believe in luck, I believe in Divine Providence. I wouldn't want to test the Divine Providence by gambling... and calling it "luck". @ironshield

Yes! That darn “luck” sneaks it’s way into my vocabulary here and there too. Have any good alternative words for that one?

Luckily there is an alternative word: maybe "fortunate"? @ironshield

Never thought of that word in that way before...but I can see your point! I guess we have to all be conscience of the words we use and not what they mean to us but to our Heavenly Father!

What does it mean to become a Hebrew? You can become a Christian or a convert to Judaism but you can't become an ethnic Hebrew.

I’m going to quote my good friend @dwells to answer your question. A Hebrew is someone who has crossed over. That’s literally what the word means, one who has crossed over. It means one who was not in covenant with God, but has crossed over in to covenant with God. Hebrews are those who are a part of Israel, who have accepted Yahweh/Yehovah as their God, have accepted His law, and are in covenant with a Him. All 13(yes there are technically 13 tribes, there is the half tribe of Ephraim and the half tribe of Manasseh) tribes of Israel are collectively known as Hebrews. The Jews come from the tribe of Judah.

@barncat from your steemit I can tell you are an individual who studies the word. Can you tell me in your understanding what it takes to become a Hebrew?

There is a difference between wish and manifest. Wish is actually the emotion of lack. Same for want or desire. Both are the experience of not having. That which you believe is that which you will receive.
My conviction is that God only requires you to believe he will provide. A lot harder to do than most ever realize. Language is a description of things. So be careful what you describe. Many people do not actually comprehend what words mean because they do not look up the entomology, which is not only when the word was created, but why the word was needed.
If you do not comprehend, you also cannot understand. Comprehension is having knowledge where as understand is to uphold, support or bring forth. So while you may comprehend something, it doesn't mean that you understand that something.
However if you claim to understand something you have to have comprehension of the very same something. It is all about the intent when it comes to language. What road was paved with intent? LOL

There's no magical way to get whatever you want from God. When Jesus talked about faith he was talking to his disciples and how they could get what they needed to do God's work.

Where did I claim there was a magical way to get anything from God. I was writing about language and the meanings of words. What road was paved with intent?

Do you use the KJV Bible? Some verses that may interest you are Psalm 40:14, Psalm 73:7, Romans 9:3 and 3 John verse 2. Instances of "wish" in both OT and NT.
The issue I see here is an instance where a word has been--or in this case, appears to have been--"corrupted" by being adopted or adapted for use outside of its original definition.
Would you stop using the words "gay" and "pride" because of how they've been adopted and revamped? The rainbow is perhaps the biggest example of something that has been turned upside down from its original symbolism; does that need to go too?
I'm of the mind that just because somebody along the way has twisted a word or symbol from its original form, that doesn't necessarily make it wrong for us to still say it. Just my two cents!

Very interesting, I did not think of the word wish like that!
