Alert Alert Fake Gold Sovereign on eBay Alert

in fake •  7 years ago

Having warned eBay about fake Gold Sovereigns on there site, and not just by me, Chards one of the most respected coin dealers in the UK also warned eBay about Fake Gold Sovereigns, eBay has taken no action against businesses & people selling Fake and Pattern Gold Sovereigns on eBay we are warning people not to buy Gold Sovereigns on eBay unless it is from a reputable dealer.

If you have bought a sovereign of eBay I would get it checked out, there are people right now sitting at home with Gold Sovereigns bought on eBay and they are fake, so beware. If the picture is not real or a graphic its a fake, I will be calling out sellers on eBay next week if they do not look or offer better details, keep informed.

I will bring you more information on this over the coming weeks, if you need any advice please contract me and I will try to help.

Be careful out there. You have been warned

Watch out for The London Coin Company and nuismaticsworldwide look at there eBay account a lot of the stuff is the same, but the second go cheaper looks like they are the same or the first one controls thew second ones the second one as site hosted in Germany, and the second one is the one who scammed me for nearly £6k

In the case of someone using stock imagery of a gold coin, we should contact them and ask them to show more pictures of it. If you want to be blunt, ask for today's date written on paper beside the coin.

This won't stop you getting a good fake, but hopefully that's where buyer protection will help.

As a seller, this feature can be a nightmare when the buyer is dishonest, of course. So document everything you send too.

I bought a 1/10th Sovereign from a dealer on ebay some time ago, How would i know if it is the genuine article?

weigh, measure, and compare, and take to a jeweller to test with xrf

What dealer?

There are so many fakes on ebay, it's very disappointing, thanks for the heads up.

Not first interesting you always have to be careful on feebay

yeah for sure, its not right, they should have there own team patrolling ebay for fakes but they dont give a shit!

good warning and you always have to be careful who you deal with with anything -i am now following

This is a problem eBay refuse to address. Being relatively new to the stacking scene I've used it to purchase silver. I've had 2 instances already in 12mnths of fake silver being delivered. I always check feedback and not just what's said, but by who and what was actually bought. Sellers will use all kinds of tricks to boost feedback. I've been lucky and always had full refunds and then gone on to destroy the coins but it does worry me the amount of people being dupt cause they don't do the all the testing I do when a new piece arrives. I always thought eBay had a duty of care to ensure the items they sell and not fake but it seems to be all about taking a big fat cut of the selling fees!!!

I think it would be daft to buy high value stuff on feebay fullstop. Ive been done once, with a 2oz silver high relief indian coin which i keep as a reminder to do my research . If i have doubts i use a magnet i check the sound i check the weight and the measurements and i would as a last resort use acid. As has been pointed out Ebay are a bunch of mercenary ba**ards , my advice would be to find a number of trusted suppliers on ebay then deal direct with them, they dont get charged fees and you get a reduction win/win.

watch nuismaticsworldwide if your in Newcastle he is near you con man

I will never buy gold from any online site unless of course it is a well known dealer it's just too risky.

2nd! Ebay couldn't care less if people were selling fakes. As long as they make their money that's all they care about. Be careful out there guys!

yep as long as they get there comission! its disgusting from a company that large

Yes there's a ton of fakes on eBay. They don't seem to do anything about it either. I've heard many stories of ppl getting ripped off buying PM's From there. Shame. I suggest taking anything u buy it have bought there and going to your shop or jeweler to have checked

Also I just want to add..there are some good sellers there but u just have to find them. Sometimes it's worth paying a bit more to buy from a reputable seller. Apmex is on there..u will have no problems with them for example

yep ive been looking at them on ebay for years now hoping to find a good deal and dreaming of getting one, but always end up thinking there probably fakes, like multiple coins with the same scratches in the same places,

Thanks for the heads up!

The only time I bother with ebay for a sovereign is if i get a 20% of voucher, then that can make bullionbypost sovereigns under spot price.

But in general steer well clear for sure!

Where do those vouchers come from and how often?

very rare mate, but i have had 2 of them, they usually are across the board when they happen so next time they come up and i see i will deffo let everyone know:)

dang missed the first comment thanks for the warning brit

I've heard of fake sovereigns, even lesser carat but still gold sovereigns. But what are these Pattern ones?

That is why I simply don't buy gold in Ebay. Why risk ? SOV.

Well things will just get worse given that eBay's buyer protection would no longer cover gold!

Sov.
