These days more fathers stay at home and take care of their children while mothers go out to work. Do you think it is a positive or a negative development?

First of all, we should analyze the question by taking apart words like ‘negative’ and ‘positive’. They have a different meaning according to current reader, and we should take care not to fall into low end stereotypes that hurt our current society. And nowadays, situation of women is a very complicated topic between ‘climate change’ and ‘migration’...
Each family is different, and we aren’t allowed to make general rules that suit every family. I mean, deciding who takes care of the babies is the business of the couple. I don’t like extremists who force women to ‘enhance’ their situation by being a working rat. That’s not my definition of freedom, that’s a negative evolution at this point of view.

In my opinion, people should be aware about the fact that is mothers who bring life. And by the way, Nature may make them more ‘advantaged’. Not being a specialist, it seems to be normal that persons who bring life are more able to take care of It. In addition, we can notice that mothers have their maternal instinct. It helps them by making them maybe more patient or kinder with their children. It’s not a good piece of news to hear that mothers are «fleeing» this awesome job.

By opposition, we cannot say that being a woman is the equivalent of being nice with children. In some families, there could be a father who is better with children than the mother. In that situation, we should think about the credibility of following the common usage. So I’m a bit happy that people overtake usual prejudices by selecting more the dad as the children-keeper instead of always choosing the mother just because she is a woman.

To sum up, it’s not a totally black and white evolution. On the one hand we can notice that people think a bit more about who take care of children at home, and we are happy seeing that. But on the other hand, women are more aspirated by this awful rat race of works and career, a bit sadder situation.
