FGM stands for female genital mutilation, female genital mutilation is also known as female circumcision excision or genital cutting. Is a procedure of partial or total removal of the external female genitalia for non-medical reasons. FGM is majorly carried out in infancy and age 15years.
At least 200milion girls and women alive today have undergone female circumcision and if the trends continues, over 15 million girls and women will undergo such cruel and painful procedure called FGM by the year 2030.
The procedure of female genital mutilation has no health benefits for girls and women, because it is usually performed without permission and often against the will of the girl child.
FGM violates the girls right to make important decision about her sexual and reproduction health.
In Africa female genital mutilation has been a norm which has been a practice carried out across each and every boundaries in Africa making it a crisis and a dangerous trend to our girls and women in the future.
WHY FEMALE GENITAL MUTILATION HAPPENS
FGM happens as a result of gender inequality and discriminatory. Culture and religious norms are factors why this dangerous and harmful practice take place.
This includes the ideas that FGM is seen as preserving chastity, cleanliness, family honour and saves a girl from marriage. These beliefs stem from a perceived need to control female sexuality.
The issue of female genital mutilation requires sensitive handling and we must educate families, communities, and religious leaders that FGM is not a necessary part of a girls coming of age rituals and Ultimately it will no longer be accepted or tolerated.
Some of the information and picture was gathered from www.plan-international.org
This might seem insensitive at face value... but I fell like this is not said often enough.
Why there's a need to divide non-gender issues into gender categories?
Why does it need to be "Female genital MUTILATION"
but it's just "Circumcision" when it's done to infant males.
It seems like there's a tendency to treat this kind of issues like a competition on who's more opressed.
Ultimatelly, a huge chunck of the victims get the short end of the stick.
Should we not tackle genital mutilation as a whole?
I'm opposed to all non-medical genital modifications without consent.
You should be too [Not directed at OP in particular, rather at the reader]
I hope you are.

It's not.
Not in overwhelming number of cases.
That is just an ignorant misrepresentation of reality.
Foreskin is important for protection, sensitivity, lubrication and provides "self-cleaning" feature to member.
You cannot just skip shower for 6 months and then claim, "well, there's some stuff under the foreskin, so it's bad for you".
Hygine is important.
There's no objective medical reason for circumcising young males.
Correlation do not imply causation. And I'm referring to the "disease" prevention. Cultural norms correlate with that just as much.
Ultimatelly, all forms of genital modification done on unwilling participants are an attempt to control individuals sexuality or enforce traditions and cultural norms.
You would have to be a cultural relativist to claim it's okay because of the culture or tradition.
And then female genital modifications would be automatically equally as "okay".

But we are made to understand that male circumcision is healthy and medically wise for the male child to be circumcised.

It's just a confirmation bias.
People who have it engraved in their culture to chop off parts of baby dicks will use any piece of data that vaguely fit their presuppositions and call it concrete proof.
Muslims will point to any tiny piece of evidence to "scientifically" justify torturing animals for halal meat.
Christians and jews will point to some 50 year old statistics to justify butchering their chirdrens genitals.
Even if overwhelming evidence show that their claims are purely culturaly motivated.
I'm not going to go into how many times people pointed to when science "agree" with their religions, cultures, and traditions, even if it overwhelmingly proves everything else about their beliefs wrong. [I use "overwhelming" too much, need to buy a dictionary]
