Half of my kids have taken my advice and are on steemit...

in family •  7 years ago

I have a pretty big family with six kids(all adults now), and numerous grand kids. I've been telling my kids to get on steemit within days of me discovering it last July. Half of them are officially on steemit now. If only we could motivate the other half.

@theanubisrider is my oldest son Nathan and he works on a lot of 3d modeling and art related posts geared towards game development. We develop games on the side together and I leave the actual 3d Modeling portion of that to him.

@kellywin21 is my middle daughter Kelly. She writes poetry, and shares photos she takes often accompanied by poetry and other interesting things. She also really enjoys chatting with the marijuana enthusiasts on steemit. She is also proudly a lesbian and member of the LGBT community. She's been using steemit at least since a week after I joined.

@jwinblood is my youngest daughter Jessie. She just wrote her introduction post today. Her fiance is the musical talent @ray.luv.music that has been active on steemit for a couple of weeks. Jessie will likely have some interesting things to say. We shall see where she goes. I also expect Ray to do quite well here on steemit with music.

I have three other children. My oldest daughter Crystal may be the hardest to get on here. Or perhaps not. Jessie puts it nicely that when her dad says do something she does it. I don't tell them to do much. Yet it was nice. I think what I actually said was likely along the lines of "fuck facebook you should be on steemit". I don't swear a lot so when I do it kind of sticks out.

My middle son Gydion is very much into gaming, and talks with gamer friends around the world online a lot. He has also been into forum based written role playing games and such. I've told him he should be on here for awhile. So far no luck.

My youngest son Talon wants to be a writer. He reads a tremendous amount. Yet there is something a person must do first in order to be a writer. Write. I told him for a long time now he needs to join steemit and just write. You get good at it with practice. He is the most introverted of all of my children so getting him to reach out engage here I think would benefit steemit a lot and I am curious to see where his mind takes us in terms of journeys. The key is getting him here. He is a very unique person and will therefore likely have some very unique perspectives.

My wife Debbie has had an account since the week after I did. She doesn't do much with it and I seriously would not expect her to write much here. Her usage of social media is primarily as a lurker. She loves puzzles and does a lot of things but she doesn't really like posting and sharing about things, and is conscientious about her writing. Out of all of my family she is the one I'd actually be surprised to see start using steemit.

So that is my clan. We are slowly invading steemit.

Smart kids, but even a smarter dad😀

That remains to be seen. I'm older... you know that whole age + wisdom thing.

Great idea!

One of my adult daughters also got the login for her new account yesterday. She is going to be making an introduction post today!

For me that is 1 down and 4 to go! :)

Let me know when she has a post up so I don't miss it. It's easy to miss things with the flood of posts these days.

Hey @dwinblood - I normally do not post links on someone else's post, but here is my daughter's introduction as requested. https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@mygypsysoul/hello

I checked out your offspring as well, and you must be proud. :)

Awesome! :)

Smart kids!!! Beats digging ditches for the summer... ;-)

Some of them still do that when they have to.

Good kids...you raised them right Dad! I am sure you have to ask them a few times thou! ;-)

LOL I'm actually in the process of digging a drainage ditch for our garden! At least it's worthwhile effort, not "dig a hole, then fill it in"... :)

We rented a trencher to dig down a foot for the fencing, but the ground was so wet it was difficult to move it around, and took a lot longer trying to keep boards under the wheels. We barely finished the fence trench, and thus didn't have time to use it to dig the drainage ditch. I'm doing that by hand, with a grub hoe. It's a good workout! :)

Yeah, got to dig sometimes... No gym for you tonight!!! ;-)

ALLL aboard the Steemit Train. I love seeing the whole family getting involved...All steemians should take a page from @dwinblood and get their friends and family signed up! ....GREAT JOB mate

Steemit is beautiful because of people like you @dwinblood that not only shares good contents but invites the whole family to join in this amazing platform...a once in life time opportunity. Wish you more success and for the remaining kids, they will certainly join after seeing the huge success that their family members will achieve in a short period of time. I am 2 and half weeks here and have seen success. Fired up and ready to go...

I'm glad you are seeing successes so quickly. That is a positive. It is worth it even when the payouts are low and virtually non-existent. This is a very cool community.

Absolutelly. Show those who are still sitting on the fence my account . I started approximately 2 and half weeks ago, without funds. Now, 570+ followers, money flowing in daily , lots of new friends, learnt lots of new things (cooking, altcoins, surfing, love stories etc) . I am new but feel as part of the family already. Fired up and ready to go..

super kids!

Couldn't of said it better myself @ionlysaymeep. You are wise beyond your years.

Your words pierce through my soul, sir.... It's like I've found true knowledge wrapped up in a cylindrical figure with a trapdoor mouth that utters sweet beeps of wisdom.

meep

Yes, I'm sorry, not beeps but meeps.... see, your intelligence shines forth once again as you so gently correct my ignorance... it was indeed a meep not a beep. I'm amazed by your brilliance sir!

Well you know what they say, "A family that Steems together, dreams together"...no wait...Or, maybe that's just me:)

I like it.

Thank you Sir:)

I'm glad to see you have your children on to this amazing platform!
I hope Crystal and the rest do the same :)
This will hopefully help spread the word of steem as they begin to tell their peers and friends in their social groups.

When the kids ask for allowance money you can just tell them to Steemit ;p

Hahaha... yep, if they were that young. Since they are adults if they ask me for allowance now I'd likely laugh. :) Though they didn't really ask for allowance as kids. We were poor, but we always managed to buy things for each other.

Weldon bro, you have done a good job by introducing the to steemit. Just don't worry about the remaining, they will soon join this wonderful family. I salute your hard work.keep working hard, the whole world must hear about steemit.

Smart family, your wife will also take it seriously , let her see the payout once ;)

She is familiar with the payout. She does vote on stuff occasionally. She just does not like sharing like that. Speaking on Facebook, Forums, or any other social media was never really her thing.

We are also not here exclusively for the payout. I love the community, and my family is beginning to see that too.

So great of you.. you people are really building the future of steemit

Three down, three to go!

That's how you do it :) spreading the good message, I'm on board!

Definately want to resteemed it and upvote mad follow u ...great idea @dwinblood

Awesome parental advice..... why should anyone piss their lives away on Facebook when they can actually earn something for their content on Steemit? FB is only good for family members sharing photos... nothing more.

And as you see here... You can share family photos here too. Include some story and context while you're at it. :)

What a great story of yours ... union is strength and we are all family in steemit ...
Hope we can be successful together here.
Big thanks and respect if you would come to my page. I have some entertaining and inspiring posts there. And let's follow each other.
Nice to meet you

Awesome! The more the steemier 😀 They have just made a very wise investment... You're a cool Dad 😁

Now that's make a family :-)

Smart decision...wish your family success

Awesome that you already have half of your brood on board! @thatsweeney guy has already started using steemit with our boys in mind. Hopefully we will get them to join when they are old enough to!

Pretty kooool that the kids somewhat listen to Dad ;) I know when I was younger nothing my parents said to me made any sense. Not until I was much older did it begin to come together for me. I'm happy they appreciate and are willing to take and put into action advice from their Dad. Makes me smile. I look forward to future posts from all of them especially Talon......... let em' know their fan base is growing. Bravo! Enjoyed.

I was just speaking with Ray, Jessie, and Kelly about Talon. We were talking about how he has such a unique mind that we all are just excited to see him write as we KNOW what he writes will offer some unusual insight into the way he thinks. Jessie said she did read some of the things on an old hard drive that he wrote for assignments while he was in school and that he was a really good writer. We have all decided we are going to try to push him more to do this.

Thats incredible ! i would love to have my entire family on here, most of them wouldnt even know what Bitcoin was if i asked them.

Its a great idea to get the family involved with things like this, keep up the good work!

None of my family knows about bitcoin other than what little I've told them. Now they all know it as an intermediary step they must go through before they can convert to fiat when they want to spend steem earnings. Perhaps some day we won't need that intermediary step.

Hahaha cool family. Cheers.

Great post! Keep it up :)
By the way, I'm following you now
Cheers

Great. I don't have kids yet i would have done the same.

@dwinblood, I really like this idea.

Wish I could implement with my family, but with my 5 kids ranging from 2.5 to 10 year old, I think I need to hold off just a little bit longer.

I'm sure by the time it is their turn we will have worked out a lot of BUGS in this new adventure.

I am sure we will. I love technology, but I am wanting my kids just to be kids for now and not have to have "social media" in their lives to find meaning.

Good work! Smart family. So far, just my wife... working on my sister-in-law who used to be a fairly prolific photoblogger.

Pops doing it right! Lead by example, They will follow naturally!

I saw the intro for one of them.....let's get the rest on board! :-)

welcome to steemit family.

Nice family that is lucky to have a smart Dad.

Upvoted and followed! I like your idea of getting the family involved, we have a 4th of July gathering and I'll mention this to them.

Someone else here had mentioned handing out flyers at the mall, and so I ordered some business cards from VistaPrint (look for a coupon, I got 500 cards for $10), and will either hand them out, or perhaps instead just put them underneath people's windshield wipers (I'm a little shy).

This is what I had printed on them:

Post your blog. Earn. It's that simple., flyer to hand out to increase Steem membership, 1 of them, 2017-06-24 Sat.png

this is so awesome!!! It took my eldest brother over a year to convince me... as per my recent post: https://steemit.com/steemit/@jaynie/13-days-of-thank-you-to-steemit

but - better late than never they say!!! right?!

Really cool and great idea :)!

Even better so that you can keep an eye on their posts (wink)

Smarter dad!!

Hahaha... I didn't even think of that. It wouldn't matter. I've been pretty open with them about making their own decisions and doing what they want, they just need to keep in mind the consequences.

I didn't tell them what jobs they should or should not take, and I didn't tell them what religion they should follow.

I'd give them advice, but the rest is up to them.

Amazing man!!
RESPECT!!!

Wow, that's great! Expanding the steemit community one family member at a time :) I got my mum signed up earlier today :)

It is amazing to be here an I can say none of us would be here without you dad @dwinblood. We love you!
Cheers to the WINBLOOD FAMILY INVADING STERMIT

Family Steem ! Nice one!

Is good to see multiple generations interact as a family - which is the very thing the Powers That Should Not Be fight against.

Good on you!

Shouts to Talon. Being a writer is no over night thing. Continue reading and writing at your own pace, finding your voice takes years.

Damn looks like I also need to talk to my family - good job!

That's great! The steemit family!

Really @papa-pepper and a few others likely beat me to that title. :)

What a great family! We are also a big family. I have four elder brothers I am the youngest. It is so nice to grow up in a big family :)

Heh. I wouldn't know. I'm an only child myself, but I did raise a big family. :)

Great Family @dwinblood

I never expected u to be such an old man already hehe, u seem to have raised quite some smart and creative children :)

I tried. I made mistakes, and will continue to make them. :) I think they turned out good. Just need to get the youngest two involved. I'm not too worried about Crystal as she seems to have her act together and things are going well for her. Perhaps we can get her on here too though.

I am a very introverted person myself, and writing helps me express myself in a much more profound matter. Just takes me some extra of effort for now upgrading my vocabulary. But in just 3 weeks of being here I feel like I have grown so much already. After reading ur daugthers introduction post today and how well ur writing skills are, seeing some resemblance, I am curious to see how ur son Talon will develop on this platform.

But in just 3 weeks of being here I feel like I have grown so much already.

This place is freeing, liberating and mind expanding.

I didn't actually expect this post to DO as well as it is. It was simply what I was inspire to write at the moment.

Talon. I am curious too. You see he has always talked about wanting to be a writer. There has only been one problem. He doesn't write, he just talks about wanting to be a writer.

So I am actually just as curious as you... likely more as I've talked to him all of his life an know what a unique character he is.

Now that's parenting done right, my friend. If Steemit is around when I have kids, they're definitely joining the community.

Upvoted and resteemed! Cheers!

Well as long as they're following their dreams good luck to them. You're a lucky man

Sweet! I'm gonna follow you as well as the fam! Upvoted and followed!

What an investment on their future! Keep on steeming!

Apparently you are the base of Steemit
By involving your kids into steemit
I wish you all a lovely time
A big happy steemit family

50% to go, btw did you have to convince your 3 children to join steemit, or did you just have to show off and they joined automatically?

Nathan joined I believe the day after I did. Kelly did a week later a long with my wife, but my wife's account was all messed up for awhile so she didn't really get involved. Then Ray joined and had Jessie in a couple of his videos, and her voice in some others. Now she is here.

Great job will follow and upvote them all so they have a good start !! Let's ask everyone reading this post to give them a warm welcome !!! :D will follow thanks for sharing ! keep on promoting lets make steem it huge :D !

Clever kids they resteem eachothers posts !! great way to promote and get strong together !!!

What good fellows your children and wife!

Tell your youngest son to read my stuff so he can learn what not to do lol! Great family! By the way... I thought you were from England???? Westminster CO... I know where that is (I used to live just off E. Colfax!

East Colfax is often not a nice place to be depending WHERE on east colfax. :) Nope the only time I've ever been out of the U.S. is when I flew north to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to interview for a job with Bioware.

I was on Steele St. A pretty nice neighborhood, my girlfriend that I lived with was a shrink and my nextdoor neighbor that I hung out with was a attorney so it was pretty good! Down closer to the Capital where the sleazy bars was was pretty nasty.

Thats awesome! More and more of my friends are starting to join, but it takes a while sometimes to convince them that it's real

The old saying "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't" likely comes to most people's minds when describing steemit and the steem blockchain. Yet, in this case it is THAT GOOD, and it is TRUE. Those that wait will likely be kicking themselves later.

Yes, they will be for sure

You did the right thing ☺️ we have to expand the steemit community👍

Wish I had a dad who helped me make money.lol

I bet most dad's try to do that. It's just the ways they may recommend may not be something of interest to the children.

Steemit family, great!
I'm just convincing my wife to join :-)

Very inspirational Post! Working on getting my Family and Friends on Steemit. I am most excited for the day that I don't have to login to Facebook to catch up with all friends and family.

Familly Is Everything ! Keep It That Way ... ! :)

What are you going to do with rest of them?!

Keep trying. And have these other three + Ray gang up on them.

Well if 200$ for one indtroduction post did not convice them i don't know what will. cut off pocket-money ;)

Oh I've got them all figuring out what a bitpay.com/card/ visa card can do for them. They see me pretty much buying a guitar, tools, air conditioner when mine breaks, books, food, clothes, etc all with magic internet money which is what I often call money I made from steemit. They've also seen me promote steemit at most places that I make a purchase if it is an in person purchase and not an online one.

You must be really proud of them! I wish them best of luck in tracing their father's footsteps! I'm sure, they too, have a lot to offer to our dear platform :D

Good job getting the kids on. My nephew is introverted like your youngest. I am trying to get him to step out of his comfort zone a bit. Tell your son, Stephen King's book named, "On Writing," is an excellent book designed to inform writers on the craft. I found it to be an excellent resource.

His problem is he wants to be a writer, but he never writes. He mostly just reads... almost non-stop. :) I'm working on that. If he gets to that point I'll try to remember that book.

Confidence can be an issue. I get that too. I'm a freelance journalist/content writer. Tell him to start with journaling. That may help.

Yep, he has been told that. He's even had the journals and pens and such purchased for him. The problem does not seem to be confidence. It is more motivation. I mentioned he is unique. That might be an understatement. He is very intelligent, but he also looks at the world different from most people. It is obvious when talking to him and interacting with him. This is not a bad thing, it actually can be a quite magical thing. Yet he does not seem to be driven by the same drives as most people.

He likes the idea of being a writer, but he seems content to read, and to go to work at whatever job will hire him whenever the assign him to a shift. I want him to start writing here as I expect as he gets better and better at it that it will be a very different perspective he brings to most discussions. I want to know what those perspectives are.

Gotcha, I hope he comes around soon. If he wants to write that means he has something to say and I'd like the read it. Take care!

Happy to be here. Thanks for introducing us all to it.

Got to love this post. Facebook is now a thing of my past R.I.P.

Thanks Deva!

Yep... now you need to help me get the rest of the clan on here.

We'll get to work!

nice
Thank you for sharing...

Enjoyed reading your post

Wou, beautiful family :) You wanna tell me that posts like this that make 300 USD its not enough to motivate them? Not that I would be too surprised :) But a bit yes :)
