Yesterday was my wife's ( @rijkie 's)birthday. Instead of celebrating it at home with family, we decided to go to the zoo. We still had tickets we got for free from a coworker of my wife. Usually we would go to Blijdorp in Rotterdam, but because these tickets came as one of several choices from a prize, we had tickets for Dierenpark Amersfoort. Basically an hours drive from where we live.

Because it was the day before christmas and the weather wasn't all that, the traffic was light and this showed double in the zoo. No lines to get in and once inside, not crowded at all. We loved it.

When entering the park you immediately run into this birdcage you can enter where parakeets fly loose and you can buy some birdfeed to draw them to you. We had no spare change unfortunately.

After that we moved on past some small critters in small cages and came to this clearing where they had lit a massive fire so you could warm your hands.

These fires were lit throughout the entire park. It was a great spot to actually relax for a second, after the the hours drive, so we decided to have some Coffee & Churros.

After that we were ready to go check out the animals in the park. We noticed that you can get a lot closer to the animals in the park than in any of the other parks.

We started with a sort of jungle gym climb above this brown bear's retreat. He was eating and just hanging about.

This tiger was actually munching on some kind of small furry animal.

And this vulture sure was interested in that very same rabbit.

Halfway across the park was a nighttime creatures house where you could really get up close and personal with the creatures. This little fellow wasjust walking about. walking beneath the barrier a minute later crossing my path.

Overhead this sloth was moving about which was awesome. I've never seen a sloth in real life.

At the far end the zoo had a Dinosaur themepark setup which the kids absolutely loved. They had this gigantic brontosaur walking through the forest and the shot I was able to take was absolutely fabulous.

Even in my background it's HUGE.

We had an awesome day. I will definitely go to this zoo again. It was just so beautifully situated and the general vibe was great.

Thank you for reading. enjoy your christmas !

An awesome zoo! Our boys love the dinosaur park as well! In summer you can even camp there... It’s called ‘A night for fathers’:

Which father dares to set up his tent between the dino's in the DinoPark and sleeps nicely next to the Tyrannosaurus rex? Perhaps it is better for frightened fathers that the children also come along! It is another way to strengthen the bond between father and child (ren). Fathers can stay with their children in DinoPark Amersfoort between the growling dinosaurs.

Maybe something for you and @bennierex??? :))

Hah that sounds like so much fun. I might actually be up for that !
