4 Generations Together Again // Great Oma Goes East!

Last Month We Had a Very Special Visitor

Journey with me as I share Great Oma's trip out to see us. She traveled from Ontario to Nova Scotia for her first time, she came with Brendan's sister Stephanie. They stayed for 6 days and we packed in as much time together as we could.

4 generations here folks, I appreciate how rare this is. "Great Oma" (Gertrude) on the right, to her left is her daughter, "Oma" (@marionbowes), Marion's son Brendan (who is my husband @hendrix22), and our children Kiedis (@kiedisbowes) & Stryder (@alivefoxdeadfox).

Family Photos at Peggy's Cove Lighthouse

It was pretty busy there for the sunset, but not nearly as busy as it was in the daytime when we tried to go. We ended up just driving through the parking lot, taking one look at the circus and bailing out to the Whale's Back for ice cream.

IMG_9070.JPG

Looking very classic in those polka dots @marionbowes, love it.

I tried for a group photo of everyone, but Stryder ran away. At least he let me take the 4 generations photo, thank you for that @alivefoxdeadfox!

In the Beginning

There was cream cheese...a lot of cream cheese.

IMG_8932.JPG

Brendan and Steph baked Great Oma a blueberry cheesecake using her own recipe that has been in the family for generations and generations. We picked the blueberries from our backyard to use for the topping.

Dessert Time

IMG_9012.JPG

Great Oma approved the cheesecake! Her words were: "It tastes just like mine". Could anyone ask for a better compliment?

IMG_9018.JPG

We don't even need to ask if these guys approved of the cheesecake...

Try to breathe in between bites boys, breathe!

IMG_9022.JPG

Ta Da!

IMG_9025.JPG

I'm pretty sure 8 people shouldn't have been able to eat all of that...

Bonding Time

IMG_9006.JPG

It was really beautiful how much time everyone spent together doing crosswords. Great Oma and Steph were even helping the little guys do a children's puzzle book.

This Photo is Funny

IMG_9049.JPG

Brendan and Great Oma are working on the same puzzle, and Brendan looks on his phone for the answer. Great Oma says it's not cheating, it's learning. God bless her!

I Absolutely ADORE This One

Grandmother in the kitchen with all-grown-up Grandson. I can feel the respect Brendan has for his Oma just emanating from him in this photo, really brings a tear to my eye.

More Treats

Great Oma took us for ice cream, as I was telling you earlier, when we decided to bail from Peggy's Cove because it was too busy during the day time. We would go back at sunset instead.

IMG_9027.JPG

I love this place, our little general store...and their ice cream is soooooooooo good.

IMG_9036.JPG

We chilled in the Whale's Back parking lot for while, enjoying our treat in the fresh ocean breeze. A reward for going through the stress of driving through Peggy's Cove village on a weekend in the height of tourist season.

All settled in on a beautiful afternoon. Both Omas relaxing while the big and little kids shriek with joy in the water.

Thanks Craig, for getting some photos while we were in the water.

Let's Warm Up!

This game always ends up with someone bleeding. "Someone" being Brendan.

A Beautiful Mist Rolled In

IMG_8975.JPG

I love the July daytime mists we get here, it's just so haunting...and the warmth really throws off my senses because where I'm from it only gets foggy in the autumn, early in the morning. And it ain't warm!

The Last Night

IMG_9120.JPG

After our sunset photoshoot at Peggy's Cove Lighthouse, Great Oma came over to our place for some tea, and to have some final chats, and hugs.

Grandmother and Granddaughter

Thank you so much Stephanie for bringing Great Oma out to Nova Scotia to visit us all. And of course many thanks to Craig and Marion for all of the meals and great times we had together at your home. Memories for a lifetime!

On a final note I'd like to say I'm just so thrilled to know that these memories will remain forever on the #STEEM blockchain and perhaps one day our Great Grandchildren will be scrolling through this post to see what their past generations were up to!

Great photos and captions babe! I miss my Oma so much now :( We definitely had a wonderful time. Thanks for bringing her out Steph!

How sweet! It's wonderful you're all able to be so active together. All these generations.

It really is a blessing that everyone is so healthy <3 Thanks for visiting Jakob :)

That’s quite the family post!

My son calls his mother’s grandmother Oma, too!

You all spent nice family fun with memorable activities. I like those awesome photography collections. Desert time so cool.

What a wonderful vacation. I totally feel like I've come along now. It really is precious to have four generations in the same place for a while.

Aw, thanks so much for coming along for the ride Winston, good to see you!

What a treat Lyndsay. All the family together enjoying the outdoors. You are so blessed to have a lovely family around you shame it couldn't happen everyday,
So different to the pictures I first saw of Nova Scotia in the winter that you posted on TSU when we first met. Its so great to learn about your family and the lovely place you live. Such a great memory to treasure.
Dont you just hate when your favorite place is invaded by tourists lol.
Happy days thanks for sharing with us xx

Dont you just hate when your favorite place is invaded by tourists lol.

HAHA finally I'm on the other side of it, I used to always be the invading tourist before :)

Do you guys get many tourists in your area?

Ha ha yes good point we were thoes Tourists too lol.
Where we live now is a quiet village. We always say when we see a tourist in our area they are lost. We have 3 main resorts and it can get very busy at times around the coast and at the many island attractions which we try to avoid at peak times. But the economy of the island relies on the toursist trade so they are always welcome 😎😎

This is so beautiful Lyndsay!! Time like this with family, grandparents especially, is priceless! I miss mine like crazy but have such wonderful memories of them too. You're right though...having these photos here forever is such an amazing opportunity that all of us have!! <3

...having these photos here forever is such an amazing opportunity that all of us have!! <3

Thank you for sharing your journey on the blockchain, you enrich us all with your love, and openness, your authenticity.

Aww that's sweet Lyndsay, thank you! I could use the exact same three words for you!❤️

ooooh, how sweet this post is!
A family is our Everything, and when I see such family stories I just melt from tenderness;)
how great it is when we gather together with our relatives.. and how rare it can happen..
But these moments are priceless! So happy faces, so sincere smiles, and 4 generations!! so cool! Unfortunately, I don't have my granddads and grandmoms now already, I don't remember them at all, so for now my family has 3 generations, and I do want to have such a great photo like yours;)!

almost all your family is on steemit! so cool;) a real team!;))
now I'm your hussbans follower too;) if you don't mind;))
he is a fan of tattoos as well, yeah?)
you must look great together!

and I want such square plates too;))

Ah, I'm sorry that you don't remember your grandparents, they must have died young :'( :'(

I'm happy you have found a new person to follow, @hendrix22! That's great!

The plates are plastic, can you believe it? :D :D :D They're great for the patio!

Very nice!!! Always a special time to be with family you dont see very often. I can tell Great Oma is a joy to be around. What did she have to say about her first visit to Nova Scotia?

A lot of trees! She loved it, the quiet, the ocean...and treees!

Not so often that different generations are 'around' and can all meet up as you guys here! You are blessed. And fortunate. And what a good time you'all had.

Happy for you. Don't worry, these memories are now etched on the STEEM blockchain. So they wont be going anywhere, just add us some more!

We are blessed indeed, thank you so much for enjoying @mirrors xo
