I have always been fascinated by the beautiful drawings etchings and sculptures of drawings. So many legends of heroes in western Culture, fighting the fire breathing snake like monsters.
There is a vast difference in the legends between the Eastern and Western cultures.
Chinese dragons are powerful, benevolent symbols in the Chinese culture. They have control over water, can summon rain during droughts( Chinese dragons are part of the Chinese festivals, like dragon dancing and dragon boat racing)
Deities and demigods have dragons as their personal mounts or companions.
The Emperor of China during the late Imperial dynasty was the only one to have dragons painted, or sculptured, on his house, and his personal articles and clothing. The beautiful vibrant colors depict the mystical concept of their dragons.

Dragon like creatures appear in all cultures around the world, however only in the Chinese culture a definite chart as as above can be found.
In Western culture they are depicted as monsters, to be killed by heroes. They live in the water, lakes and streams or in caverns and castles.
In European culture dragons are legendary in all the overlapping cultures (also referred to as Wyrm or Wurm).
It has a long slender body, with either no limbs, or four limbs with or without limbs. depicted as evil crests scales fire breathing protecting a cavern filled with gold and treasure.
often a dragon is incorporated in family emblems and even in as in my own ancestry, in the Welsh flag and my family crest.
