Family- small or big?

My son has been studying for 3rd grade exams where in he has the topic of large and small families. India has the tradition of having large families where in grandparents, aunts, uncle's, cousins all live together under the same roof. You can still find large/joint families in many Indian villages even today. Thanks to professional commitments, people have been shifting to cities where in shortage of space makes them have small/nuclear families with just husband, wife and their children.

People living in nuclear families don't usually like large family set ups because it is too much work and then there are restrictions from the older members of the family. However, many would agree that in large family set ups the work gets divided between the members of the family and there always will be someone when you are sick or your child needs a caring hand when you are out.

If you judge carefully, there are more pros than cons of living in a joint family and there is one family back here in India which strongly believes so.

Ziona chana's family in Mizoram, India is one huge Indian family that has Guinness record in it's name. This family is the world's largest with Ziona's 39 wives, 94 children and 33 grand children as calculated during the last census. The family lives in one single household that is spread over 4 storeys with over 100 rooms in it. The house is the only mansion in the hilly areas of Baktawng, Mizoram. The family eats, sleeps, prays and celebrates together. If you are wondering if there are no fights, then, yes, there are fights occasionally, but they get over it like you would with your family member in a small family. Ziona's wives agree unanimously that he is the most handsome man in the entire village. If you are wondering how Ziona manages to keep his 39 wives happy, then let me tell you that the rotation cycle is the thing that works here. Ziona is fond of young girls, so he let's his youngest wife stay near him and remaining works on rotation. However, Ziona is the one who decides who's turn it is.

Ziona belongs to a certain community in Mizoram that allows multiple wives. Coincidentally, Ziona is the head of the community. Ask him, how he feels about this huge family? He is quick to answer that he feels like a God who has to care for so many people. Ziona says, he wants to add more members to his family and would not mind marrying for the 40 the time.
