I handle domineering family members by ignoring them.
I am the youngest member of my household and that's what I do. I'm totally aware of how disrespectful my behavior may come off. And sometimes, I feel bad about it.
But most of the time, I don't. I don't believe they're in the right place -- despite being 20+ years ahead of me -- to be authoritative if they don't have and if they're not responsible enough to consider another person's feelings.
I don't have issues with domineering family members, at all. I just think that if someone has the audacity to be domineering, they should make their point clear beforehand -- and not just make orders for the purpose of superiority. Otherwise, they're being bullies.
I can follow orders. Yep, I can be ordered around. But before agreeing, I want to know the purpose of their order.
I see it like going on strike. If someone were to ask me to go on strike, I'd first ask why. I'll follow but only if I [see a point in or] understand their order.
How do you feel every time they ask you to do something?
