I was looking for statistics for a short film I want to write on aging out of the system when I came across some reports released on Alex Gervais.
The background is Alex spent most of his life in the Foster system, and a few months before he turned eighteen he took his life by jumping off a hotel second floor.
The problem is people knew that he was depressed and nothing was done about it.
A foster parent was receiving 8 thousand dollars for him and he was being put up in a motel instead of their house.
The Foster Workers knew but decided there's more pressing matters to deal with.
His family... cousins and uncles... volunteered to let him stay at their place but the Foster system said no.
So left alone, abandoned and depressed. He took his own life.
As they always do, a study was done pointing out all the problems of the system and then recommending changes that would save their lives.
Then nothing.
None of the recommendations have been i acted that I can see... the big one is in cases where parents are a danger... you remove the parents and let the kids stay in their home with some family support... hasn't been made a rule.
Even though all the specialists and Child Psychologists state it's what's best for the kids... so why hasn't it been done?
Maybe the 8 grand a month has something to do with it?
the system is broken and our leaders are eager to dance with big firms than help the common man, i never understand how they could put a child in foster homes while they have living relatives, i think this relative should be given the first priorities before taking them to foster homes, kids grow well when the are loved and family love is greater that foster love

This was happed because nobody helped him ... child with a disease deserve more than that... I don’t like to see a parent who doesn’t care about his child.
