First letter from the public "child service" system in Denmark

in familyprotection •  7 years ago  (edited)

Before I had children I never really imagined that they would be of much interest for others than the parents and everyone who knows them, but then I began hearing so many stories. So many laws and rules.
The state has a huge interest in our children!
That was for me a quite scary thing to disvover. For what interest can the state have in our children?

Luckily so far I haven't had any problems. I have a feeling that Denmark is not one of the very worst places to live when it comes to freedom. In Italy, where his father is from homebirth is expensive and there are 12 obligatory vaccines! In Denmark I had a free assisted homebirth with no problems, and it was no problem to say no to other interventions either. And vaccines is a free choice.
Every single family gets child support too.

So I actually thought they were gonna leave us alone.
But now i got the first strange letter. Hopefully the last ;) haha.

Part of the letter In Danish:

It basically says, that because willow is not in kindergarten, I am obliged to let him be tested in his language. And if they find it necessary, we are obliged to let him receive stimulation.
This is according to the "dagtilbudslov" which means litterally the "day-offer-law".. an offer? Or a law? Aren't those two words quite opposite?
And if I don't fulfill the obligation, they will take away the child support.

So well.. I am gonna let them come and test his language. At an age of 3 willow already speaks Danish, Italian and a little bit of English. So i am not worried about his language skills!

But why are they?
Isn't it just the weirdest law..?

And they have to come to the home to do it.
My first thought is that it might be some hidden agenda to check out how everything is with the family, now that they can't do it through kindergarten. Or i guess i hope that.
That the state is actually caring about if children grow up in a safe environment, so they just want to be sure..

For what the fuck does it concern them if a 3 year old is speaking "proper" or not!?

I guess it all comes down to the citizens getting shaped to fit into the system. Become a good worker and tax payer. A good consumer. And at best not much else.

Or what do you think?

Anyone has experience raising free children in the Danish system?

I hope they are just gonna pass by the house where my address is, (but i don't live, because we are in portugal now, living in our van) and say "what a lovely child!" (Because he is!) And then not cause us more trouble. (Because having to drive 3000 km back to dk for this is a bit troublesome).

I could also say no to the money they give us. I guess they do want to follow the child they are investing in. And maybe they would care less then.
But let's see. The meeting is in june (managed to push it that far, it was supposed to be in February 😜)
So wish us luck!

i want to do something for children.

I was looking a bit at the regulations around this law. There is a government subsidy for daycare. People can declare their own home as a daycare and receive the subsidy. Daycare are required to meet certain criteria for language skills, etc.

So I am wondering if it is only this Daycare Subsidy that you will lose if you do not comply? Or is it a general amount for all children that you would be losing?

Personally, where I live we can choose to receive government funding for our children (age 5 and older) if we are homeschooling, but then we have to jump through their hoops and meet their requirements and have home visits by teachers. That makes sense since it is their money and they can make the rules. I choose to refuse the money and do what I want with my own children's education.

Hmm, yes good question, i think it is the whole support package i would loose if we do not comply, but yes it does kindof make sense since it is there money. I am considering refusing the money too, to have the full decision and responsibility over my child. I never did anything to receive this support, it comes automatically and wouldnt even know how to stop it. But part of me also just feels to seem, on the paper, like everyone else and follow their standards as long as I feel they are not disturbing my child.. but i dont know. I guess it is more moral to not recieve their money and do as we wish.. but i am not sure 'cause i also believe that a country as a community should suport their children and families.. 😊 thank you so much for your reply!

Yes! What is the problem of language... who cares! Like my 3 children now, they know only english not my native language the TAGALOG. This is the freedom! Study when ever they want! Lets give our child a good education... And the first teacher is us, the parents...

You have a minor misspelling in the following sentence:

And if they find it necessary, we are obliged to let him recieve stimulation.
It should be receive instead of recieve.

WTF! He's 3yrs old, how can they come and test a small child to see if he's upto their standards.

This is Spooky! I personally would cut my losses and tell them to do one!

I know you and I have met your lovely little man, I know he would pass the test with flying colours but for some reason I think there is more to this and that they have an agenda.

I would speak to as many friends and family back home and see if anyone can do a bit of investigating on your behalf before making any decisions.

Keep us posted.

Thank you Mark, I am considering cutting it, but will think about a bit longer and see how the meeting goes.
Btw sorry se didn't say goodbye at frkcy, thought we'd see you at the rainbow 😊 hope you are all good and maybe see you around if you're still in portugal..!

beautifull... I take it positively, quite

Thank you, i think i will do that too 😊

hopefully you have luck with it and everything goes well but, always this alarte and above all knows your rights, if you can record the visit would be useful, if something happens in the future

Thank you for the advice! ❤

Hi @frejafri, unfortunately if you are claiming welfare for your child then the government really believes they have control over the well being of said child, there is a reason why you receive it in the first place. I would recommend contacting them and telling them you are moving from Denmark and unregister your child with them.I receive no payment from any government body for my children, because I do not want them being involved in their upbringing full stop. Good luck, you will be more free for doing it.

Thank you, yes i am strongly considering doing so! ❤

You are welcome.

This law you are referring to was passed last year. There's no doubt that the real reason why this law was passed was to prevent ghettoization, in particular in the muslim communities, and help 2nd generation immigrants bring their language levels up to a level where they'll be able to participate in the public school system. I'm not saying I agree, but I think it's worth pointing out for context.

Ah yes that makes a lot of sense. I was wondering about it cause i was thinking it would make sense for non native speaking families, but maybe they couldn't make a law for that without it being racist so they just made it for kids not attending kindergarden. Thanks for pointing it out!
