It's been almost one year since the plight of terminally ill British baby Charlie Gard captivated hearts and minds all over the world and it is time for another family to fight the medical establishment in London. Only this time Child Protection Services have decided to join forces with the doctors and show what they're capable of.
The latest case concerns a terminally ill 11-year old girl, suffering from Rett syndrome, a genetic disorder affecting brain development. Melody Driscoll has been on morphine and steroids since 2013, but now doctors at King's College Hospital in London have decided to stop the pain-killer, arguing that it might cause liver damage. The parents are fighting the doctors's decision, saying they want their girl to be free of pain and enjoy as much as possible the little time she has left.
Enter Social Services
In a move any follower of the @familyprotection account will recognize as a terrible mistake, the parents contacted social services, hoping a social worker will be assigned to their daughter. And it was. Soon after this, the family got an official letter threatening them Melody will be put in foster care if they don't stop questioning the doctors decision. It's not just words. The Croydon Council, acting on the doctors' recommendations, have informed the family they will be starting court proceedings!
'I saw the words 'foster care' and collapsed. I couldn't read on. We love our children more than anything and we'd never harm a hair on their heads. I asked for a social worker because I thought they'd help us do the best for Melody. Now I realise how naive we were. Parents are powerless”.
Karina Driscoll, the child's mother, said that in the letter doctors were quoted as saying the parents are „difficult” and the girl is at risk of significant harm.
At the same time, doctors in London have gone so far as saying the little girl isn't in fact in too much pain and she is. in fact, just naughty. Seeing that Melody is unable to walk or talk, I cannot imagine how exactly is she being naughty.
'We want as much time with her as we can, but understand that should be about quality, not quantity. I'd rather have one more year with Melody where she was not in pain, than five years of watching her like this. How can we be called unfit parents for fighting for that?' Melody was not supposed past the age of five years and most people affected with Rett syndrome die in their 20s. At present, her liver is already damaged as a result of being tube-fed for most of her life.

The doctors at King's College Hospital have refused to comment in the case, assuring they have the child's best interests in mind. Just like social services, no doubt.
The complete and utter arrogance of the British medical establishment has been showcased in the story of Charlie Gard, when, even after winning the right to pull the plug on the machines keeping the child alive, the doctors would not allow the family to take their boy home to die. Why? Just because they wanted to make an example of that family who had dared to oppose their decision. The boy was to die when and where the doctors the decided. And the sooner the better.
Let's just hope the Driscolls won't share the same fate, especially as they now have to fight both the doctors and the social services.

I used to think as you got older you’d become more adjusted and trusting toward medical people but now I see it’s probably far more mature to distrust them. They are officious, authoritarian, arrogant & paternalistic.
Thank goodness so far I’ve not had to have too much to do with them.
What a sadness we have to be in a hurry for our children to grow up to protect them from the state. 🙁

I agree @chromiumone. I now see so many vaccine injured kids and people with drug side effects in my daily work as a Homeopath so I have no trust of the system at all (bar if I have no choice and need stitching back together).

If I were them I would file a multi million dollar lawsuit for medical malpractice. That will usually shut the doctor up and remind him that he works for you. I seem to be reading more than a few cases like this from England. Hope and prayers for the child and family.

the rules and "Power" which the doctors have, in my eyes are to much high. We can see many cases, where they only still keep the body to make money. Because the can try anything on the body and than later say it it don't help. Everyone should have the right to take his child home, or his partner when he like to decide like that. I am the person who desicde about myself only, not any doctor, or even a government rule or person. We didnt let our baby waxxed, and we will never do it. It was very hard that time, many people told us to do it and if we didnt do it, our child will die on our journey, which we are since 14 Month around Asia. But we didnt listen, we did not let it happened. And what happened today? Our baby is still healthy ( very healthy ) and there is not problems at all. Thank you for your good post dear @ladyrebecca

If people only understood what getting involved in the system will do... there is an old saying I remember my parents always repeating, "once in the system, always in the system." This makes my blood boil.
Government intervention - the cultural marxists twisted dreams come true, and 50 years of US allowing this to become the present day state of affairs.
These interventions- and government decisions - on families, is becoming widespread across the UK. It is disgusting.
Courts are ruled by judges, not jury. (and closed many times with family affairs)This is the beginning of the end play in communism. (no I'm not being overly dramatic).
We need to readdress the situation rapidly, and the destruction of society happening under our very noses.
And it starts with dismantling the corrupt governance we have allowed ourselves to fall under.

As for the problem; it cannot be solved, because people who solve those kinds of problems do not exist anymore. Now everyone cares too much about the feelings of others, especially those who are destroying their children.
