Guilt of a wealthy but poor westerner....

I feel i have to write this

I have been a steemian for about 5 months and have been posting on #familyprotection for about 2.
I live in the UK and i post in #familyptotection regarding my own and my families experience of social services and how i see that it is applied to the working class community as a whole.
I read and comment on the posts that i find on #familyprotection also and last night a thought occurred to me which prompted me to post this apology.

It has occurred to me as i read the stories of despair from all over the world, that it could seem to others, that our problems are small by comparison. We have had children abused in childrens homes in the past and now we have a huge problem with religious grooming gangs and working class communities children have been abandoned to their fate and then the problem covered up. These problems have a huge impact on individuals, families and communities.
However, we don't really have problems with kids getting disease and dying untreated or starving to death. We don't have abandoned toddlers walking the streets or kids being forgotten. However, here, like many other countries around the world, children of the poor are being abused and forgotten.
I have read stories about abandoned children who starving. I have read stories of children who are dying due to not having things that we regard as basic and part of our human rights. It's a scandal. It's not because those basics don't exist where they live but a lack of will power to help the poor.
I think that is the common thing that binds us all. We live in a world that looks down on the working or lower class. They think we are expendable.

I guess, my guilt ties into my earlier abuse in childhood. As i grew older in care homes i became more physically able to protect myself. For years i fought against guilt for abandoning those other kids with me in care. In reality, i was a kid myself and couldn't protect them.
Maybe most of this is in my own head. What i do know, is that we should care for every child. But the reality is, you have to do that in your own reality.
I realize that in the west we are very lucky to live in a wealthy country. Even being financially poor, we have the basic necesities and also luxuries. It breaks my heart to see and hear about the suffering of children and families all over the world. It shouldn't be that way, but it is.

Our problems often feel small in comparison. it gives me great hope and inspiration to see people all over the world, who, no matter what their circumstances they are putting children first.
Steemit and #familyprotection are actually helping in those problem area's that have been forgotten.
People don't feel isolated anymore and can read and tell their stories about the failings of social services, wherever we are. Children will eat tonight due to #familyprotection.
This is the real beauty of crypto!!
