Famous stories in the Bible for kids: "Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind," 2 Kings 2:11

Elijah is one of the most important prophets of the old testament, this prophet is frequently named in the gospels, in fact, John the Baptist was taken as a personification of the prophet Elijah, and more, Jesus himself on a lonely mountain with his disciples, has an encounter with Elijah and Moses, in what is known as the transfiguration of Jesus. This prophet has a great particularity, the Bible tells us that he did not die but was caught up by the spirit of God to heaven, an incredible story of faith for kids.
The life of this prophet is told in the books of 1 Kings and 2 Kings. Elijah preaches the word of God during the reign of Ahab, king of Israel, and Jehoshaphat, king of Judah. Elijah performs many miracles that have a great resemblance to those of our Lord Jesus, Elijah multiplied the food like Jesus, but in the case of Elijah it was the flour and oil in the house of the widow of Zarephath (1 Kings 17:8-16), also in a sign similar to that of Jesus, he resurrected the son of the widow woman (1 Kings 17:17-24).
This is how the Bible tells us this famous story about the ascension of Elijah:
"Fifty men from the company of the prophets went and stood at a distance, facing the place where Elijah and Elisha had stopped at the Jordan. Elijah took his cloak, rolled it up and struck the water with it. The water divided to the right and to the left, and the two of them crossed over on dry ground.
When they had crossed, Elijah said to Eisha, ´Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?´
´Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit,´ Elisha replied.
´You have asked a difficult thing,´ Elijah said, ´yet if you see me when I am taken from you, it will be yours—otherwise, it will not.´
As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind. Elisha saw this and cried out, ´My father! My father! The chariots and horsemen of Israel!´ And Elisha saw him no more" 2 Kings 2 7-11.
