The Arabian horse is one of the oldest and most famous horse breeds, known for its beauty, endurance, and intelligence. Originating from the Arabian Peninsula, it has a distinct look with a finely chiseled head, a high tail carriage, and an arched neck. Arabian horses are generally smaller than some other breeds, averaging between 14.1 to 15.1 hands high, but they’re incredibly strong and hardy. They have large nostrils for efficient breathing and a slightly concave, or “dished,” profile.
Beyond their appearance, Arabians are prized for their spirited yet friendly personality, stamina, and versatility in many equestrian disciplines like endurance riding, dressage, and show jumping. Their genetic influence is widespread, as they’ve contributed to the development of many other horse breeds around the world.
