Pawn Of Prophecy

This is the first book of a series called the Belgariad. In the early 1980's some of the books in the series made the best sellers list of the New York Times. This is the first book a a five part series that grew into a series of 12 books total. I really enjoyed reading the series when I was in high school, and reread the series in 2014.

The book starts off with the creation of the world the series takes place in. Then we start reading about the main charter Garion as a young boy growing up on a farm. He plays with friends, and helps his Aunt Pol in the kitchen where they cook for the head farmer and all the helpers.

Pol's Father shows up, and talks about how a item that has importance had been stolen, and needs to be recovered. It is at this time, Garion begins hearing a voice in his head that turns out to be from a divine source. This voice guides him in his journey throughout the series. The voice is refered to as the voice of prophecy or the "necessity".

Many people join the party as they chase after the mysterious stolen item. Mr Wolf or Belgarath turns out to be Pol's Father and Garions Grandfather. They are accompanied with Durnik the blacksmith, a Prince named Silk who is a spy and a thief, and Barak a warrior who loves to drink.

I really enjoyed this series, and I am sure I will read it all a third time. Hope you give it a try if your into fantasy novels. !

I might have to check this one out... it's got a map, that's always a good sign !!!!

I just bought the entire series for the kids at Christmas. These were the books that got me reading as a kid. They fly through them in a few days each book. Great series.

I will be posting a review on the following eleven books as well, I am saving them for days I dont have much to write about. These also were the books that launched me into reading.

That's a pretty cool, random fact to share together.

You know how to read? :) :)

At first I only knew how to write, but after years of doing that, reading kind of came natural :P
