I generally try to write reasonably in depth posts whenever I post something here but this is a social media site after all so from time to time its nice to just share an interesting piece of news. I have previously posted a bit about this series in both this post and this post with the latter being a bit more in-depth.

For those unfamiliar with this book series, Oathbringer is the 3rd installment in the Stormlight Archives series by Brandon Sanderson. To quote myself from an earlier post-

If you haven't read the first two books in the series, The Way of Kings and Words of Radiance, I highly recommend them. This is his first foray into epic fantasy, up until this point his series have mainly been trilogies and stand alone novels. The world building in the first two novels is simply fantastic and I can't wait to see where the story goes from here. All signs are tentatively pointing to this book being released some time in 2017.

The Stormlight Archive is a planned 10 book series and the third installment is still on track to be released in November 2017. The cover art was recently released on tor.com (the publisher of this series)  and definitely gives us a little insight in to some of the events of the upcoming book. Take a look at the slightly more expansive art work the cover is based on

Michael Whelan is the artist and this is what he had to say about the scene

“We’re centered on a scene where Jasnah confronts the  invaders,” Whelan says of the cover. “A giant has smashed a breach in  the city wall, and Jasnah is called upon to restore it.”
“After dispatching several invaders with her Shardblade  sword, she covers the gap with a brassy wall of magical metal. It’s a  very visual scene, in which I saw a lot of possibilities for good  images.”

This would mark the first time we have actually seen Jasnah use a shardblade, not to mention our first glimpse at potential desolations. I won't go too much into explaining what all of it means, basically it just makes me even more excited for this book to come out later this year.

If you love this series and have any other insights into what the cover might be hinting at, please feel free to leave them in the comments.
