Mareks Disease

This was my chicken tok tok. She was a awesome chicken who I nursed right from hatching to a baby chicken and I was her mother lol. She had attitude she would attack cats, talk to you, learnt commands etc. One day I noticed she wouldn't get up and was limp so here I go again nursing her and it went on for months and a rooster caught it too. So I took them to the vets and was told they had Mareks disease and there was nothing we could do and it was highly contagious to other birds. So I called the lady who gave us the fertilized eggs which we put under a broody chicken etc. She had treated one of her chickens before who caught it and survived I tried for months all-sorts they slept in bed with me and i made it so it was separate from me and them and them and it no poo would get anywhere. I did foot exercises etc everything but the rooster died first. But my tok tok carried on for months and finally succumbed to it and died in my arms. I thought I might share it as it was something I didn't know about till it happened and the vet said there was no vaccinating for it in New Zealand and so if you notice this in your birds separate asap as it is highly contagious. You can go online and look up stuff to fix the birds etc I tried but I think you have to do that stuff as soon as you notice it. I miss her so much she was the most funniest crazy awesome chicken ever!!!! xxx
