Farm To Table!

in farmlife •  3 years ago

I recently built a website for a small family farm. The owners of the farm introduced me to to the concept of "farm to table" which is a term that has been coined recently for an idea that is millenniums old but now considered to be a new thing - essentially grow your own food and eat it - or at least buy food from someone who grew it. Something that is near impossible for most of us living in the 21st century rat race.

Imagine if everyday you were able to sit down to a meal that was made up predominately of produce that you had grown yourself. Of course most of us don't have that luxury but what if we could choose to buy food from a local farm in small quantities rather than down at the supermarket. The implications of this go far beyond simply taking money away from the corporate giants that control our diet. Its fresh, its healthy, it's money back in to the local community, the list goes on and on.

I for one am sold on the idea and have since signed up for weekly deliveries of whatever it is the farm has on offer. I have learned to change my attitude away from deciding what I want to eat then going out to shop for it, to rather - what food is available for me to buy then deciding how to prepare it.

The Little Bukit Farm offers three core products to whoever wants to be part of it - organically grown fruit and vegetables, eggs (true free-range), and fresh goats cheese - made from parts of a real goat so you know its good!

Part of the commission to build a website for the farm was to shoot some photos of each of these three endeavours. Attached are the photos. The pics look almost fantastical - like a scene from a fairytale but I swear thats exactly how it is. There is a bamboo tower, a duck pond, a goat shed, a chicken nursery, horses running around and crops of fresh vegetables neatly growing alongside all of the above.

Almost makes me wish I owned a farm!
