Planting season on the farm.

Yep, we raise grass fed, grass finished beef on about 7000 acres. That also means we raise crops. Gotta feed those hungry fellers. ( we only do steer so we don't have any spring babes anymore ). We are fairly new to this particular piece of land and we are putting major effort into living our values by improving the soil as well as raising beef without corn sugars and hormones. This means, of course, delayed profits. Aside from the commodities market and the fluctuating price of beef, it takes time to develop an organic, no till program, but I'm proud to say it's in the works. These images were taken in the last couple of days, all during the wild, changing weather common to the San Luis Valley.

The truck ( an iphone image that's a bit rough ) is a new organic lignite and soft rock fertilizer. Obviously spraying 7000 acres takes a few truckloads, to say the least.

Then there is the planting, going on today using the no till technique.
