Today, i want to write about yam cultivation.
What is yam cultivation?
Yam is the common name for some plant species (at least eight) in the genus Dioscorea (family Dioscoreaceae) that form edible tubers. Yams are perennial herbaceous vines.
The cultivation of yam tuber is the third global agro-economic product after cassava (Manihot esculenta) and sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas). Yams (Dioscorea spp.) is a special and sensitive plant.
Yams respond well to organic fertilizers like compost – a mixture of decayed organic matter composed of plant parts and animal manures. The compost is mixed with the soil.
Yam is a tropical tuber crop consumed as a vegetable and is rich in starch. It has good shade tolerance and is easy to cultivate.
In Vietnam, the same purple yam is used for preparing a special type of soup canh khoai mỡ or fatty yam soup. This involves mashing the yam and cooking it until very well.
Health benefits of yams Yam is a good source of energy.
Wild Yam Root – Benefits and Side Effects. Plant Parts Used: The roots and rhizome are dried and used for medicinal purposes. Wild yam has gradually become a rare plant.
Yam can varies in size, and colour. It can be big, small, white, yellow and lots more.
Yam can be used to eat so much type of food like beans,oil, and even it can be used as feed for farm animals.i.e goat etc.
Yam is common in africa and it is easy to cultivate.
Just till dthe soil and dig a hole and bary the yam inside the ground. Always water the soil.
