My Backyard Garden - I Spotted A Cotton Plant

in farms •  7 years ago  (edited)

So my backyard garden turns out to a mine of very good plants with lots of benefits. I didn't even know i had a cotton plant growing here until i came across some few days back. So i decided to share it with the community and share what i know

The cotton plant is popular for its cotton productions however mine hasn't flowered yet though. As you can see, it is still very young and in its early stages am guessing pollination hasn't started or perhaps it has, i can't really tell, am still learning a lot in the agricultural field and most of my knowledge today is thanks to my father and @farms. The posts i read here each and everyday are very useful in so many ways, health wise and in the sense of income generation.

The cotton plant is not limited to any particular geographical location, so long as it finds itself in a fairly heavy soil with enough nutrients, a good sunlight and moderate rainfall it is good to go and i believe i have that here, (probably why it grew). Due to its usefulness especially the cotton we obtain from it, in most of the develop nations and even the developing nations, farmers have resorted to well regulated irrigation to be able to plant more of it and year long.

Unfortunately for the plant, the boll weevil is its greatest enemy, it is a pest that just won't let the cotton plant be, so am gonna keep my eye out for it or maybe because mine is just one it won't bother attacking, anyway if it does i will be ready for it. So let me wrap up with some of the uses of the plant. The cotton as we all know has lots of benefits, it is used in textiles production, fibres, linen, nets, tents, papers and a whole lot more. We even have cottonseed oil and in terms of medicinal purpose, it is used in treating nausea, fever, headaches, haemorrhages, menopausal symptoms, just to mention a few.
