My thoughts as a young farmer on influence of social media on agriculture
Advances in technology have radically changed agricultural production methods over the decades. Today, new methods of communication are also changing the way the public learns about agriculture and formulates opinions on food production.
Agriculture is diversifying as a population and we are moving away from the farm, It is important for farmers to explore different communication options.
Most Americans have been away from the farm for at least three generations, which means that it has been three or more generations since they lived on a farm, and the average age of the American farmer is 55 years.
American farmers can no longer rely on personal communication to tell their story. More and more farmers are becoming technology experts and engaging in social networking to communicate with consumers on a personal level.
In my opinion, farmers should use as many tools as possible to convey the message of agriculture,
Agricultural industries are improving their development in social networks and developing their activities to reach the general public. The industry starts hiring social media experts to oversee the buzz of social networks.
The best thing about social media is that you can talk to people about agriculture, a former representative of the Missouri Beef Council Industry as a social media specialist. Social networks are instant, fast, and enable you to relate to consumers.
The use of social networks creates a new audience. With Twitter, Facebook and YouTube, farmers can tell their stories in their own words. The masses of people using Facebook and Twitter are creating new ways to share with people who would otherwise be in uniform. there are more than 1.2 billion people worldwide using Facebook. Farmers can share what is important to them and what changes they want to see in agriculture.
Social networks will help boost the message of agriculture,
Social networks capture generalized users. Interesting stories that appear more on Twitter or Facebook are read sooner than in a newspaper.
Social networks help maintain better momentum in the outlets. It allows agriculture to know what people are talking about.
All outlets of social networks are available at your fingertips; All you need is internet access. These outlets allow people to participate in conversations and gather intelligent thoughts and ideas. Technology has had a major impact on agriculture. Farmers and ranchers benefit from genetic advances in livestock, biotechnology in seeds, alternative energy sources and GPS technology. Farmers can use social media to educate the public about the increasing use of technology.
It has become much more transparent, when asked how agriculture has changed social networks. People are more willing to participate in the conversation and consumers ask more questions.
These social media also provide a platform for those who disapprove of modern farming practices. Sometimes known as anti-farming activists, their online presence increases the need for farmers to use social media to combat the claims of anti-farm activists.
Social networks will only generate more conversations, sIt's up to us to find new ways to connect and share our history."
