How farmers can increase crop yields if they actually want to.

Food production will continue to be on an ever high demand simply because the rate of population growth surpasses that of food supply, less land reserved for agriculture.
Apart from the above mentioned, farmers especially in developing countries and particularly in rural communities in Africa are still resistant and reluctant to use improved seeds as planting material to additional seed material which is often been infested due to poor storage( weavils, mould, rodent infestation).

However, improved seeds for crops such as maize, beans, groundnuts, soybeans, Solanum tuberosum, etc will tend to increase yield because they are resistant to local diseases, for example.

Also, these improved crops can be intercropped with legumes such groundnut, beans, or soybeans in order to maximize land or can be grown sequentially.

Growing food in abundance enables the farmers to have plenty of surplus which will generate income when sold as such for us to have excess we want, we need to carry out real agronomic practices such as using improved planting seeds, timely weeding, planting distances, crop rotation with legumes etc.

So let us help our farmers with our know-how so as to increase food production in our own little way.
