I turn 45 today. I have been shoeing horses since I was 15.
A couple of years ago, I was fully burned out. My work load was taking me hours in each direction of my home and servicing clients was consuming my precious time and my profits. That is when I decided to make a change, because either I tried to control the change, or it was going to control me.
I cut any client that wasn't profitable and/ or was unpleasant. The change took a while to accomplish, and to feel the effects, but the short version is that I am back to looking forward to going out and shoeing horses again.
I would really like to go into much more detail about dealing with burn out. I've gone through it a few times in my career. I'm sure just about everyone does in their respective careers, but farriery may add the additional physical burn out problem from what many consider an extremely physical and filthy occupation.
Anyway, that isn't really the point of this post. The point of this post is that I have currently found myself successfully on the other side and looking forward to going out and working with my nice equipment on some nice horses, in nice stables owned by nice people. This is the kind of time I have been looking for and working for my entire life and career and on my 45th birthday, its time to recognize that and celebrate it.
There is so much more I'm excited to talk about and do concerning content creation. Stay tuned and I promise, I'm getting to that.
