HIDDEN HANDS BEHIND YOUR LOOKS

in fashion •  7 years ago

Every day we are bombarded on the television and on magazines, with well dressed actors, actresses, musicians, business tycoons, politicians and the likes. We have come to name some of them style icons, whose fashion sense seem to be beyond the ordinary. But, these people do not get to that point on their own. This is a fact that many of us gloss over. To achieve such gorgeous look every time they step out, takes lots of work.

We can thank, the red carpet VeeJays who interview stars and asked them what they are wearing and where they got it from. In some cases, these stars do not know. They are given, they are dressed and they step out looking like a million Steem backed dollars.

There are persons in world of fashion who hide in the shadows. These persons are the reason why stars stand out at parties, concerts, launchings, openings, movie reviews etc. These persons are not stars, some of them are not even rich, most of them will never see the limelight but without them, a star or mega millionaire will just be another overdressed man or woman.

Who are these people?

There are several persons who service the fashion industry in diverse ways, whose purpose is to make you look as lovely as a star. They include;

  • The tailor: every fashionista has his or her own tailor. The tailor could be a popular brand name, or a roadside tailor with a manual sewing machine. He or she, either known or unknown, builds the lovely gown, the awesome suit, the fabulous indigenous design that photographers can’t seem to get enough of. Some persons give appreciation to these hands that labour to create a befitting clothe for them. Others don’t.
    There are tailors who have evolved to the level of fashion designers, creating their unique style, mixing fabulous materials to create unique effect and yet, they are unknown. Then they are those who have gone as far as becoming wardrobe consultants and personal shoppers for their clients. They shop, recommend and dress their clients for any special occasions.
    The tailor chooses the style, if the client is particularly lacking in fashion sense. He or she sometimes buys the materials to build the clothing. He or she also take notes of changes in body size and recommends clothing accordingly.

  • When the tailor is done with building a superb outfit, the client cannot just put it on. It needs to be properly arranged to bring out the fitting intended by the tailor. This is where the laundry man comes in.
    It is his or her job to make the outfit suitable for wearing. This includes washing the outfit, stiffening the outfit if needed, pressing the outfit when drying and effecting any minor repairs e.g missing button, blocked button hole, bad zipper, etc.

  • Finally, for an outfit to stand out in an event, the person wearing it needs to be aware of his or her body and posture. Clothes do not wear us, we wear the clothes. So no matter how good a tailor or laundry man is at his or her job, you the person wearing the clothe has to have the right physical posture to carry the intended effect to the maximum.
    A good body carriage, confidence in your self and firm posture can go a long way to make even a bad work of a tailor and a laundry man look good. This is very important. This is what the stars have that makes everything they have on glitter like diamonds and pearls.

Final Thoughts

Give your awesome tailor the respect he or she deserves. You have won a contract, gotten a job, found a man, because of how you looked on that day.

Give your laundry man his due because you have won a shirt two days in row and on both days, it was well pressed, clean and stiffened to crispness. He will never be famous but you can show appreciation.

Give yourself some love. You are beautiful, life is short. Stand tall and walk with your head held high. Show confidence in your movement and carriage whether it is there or not. You will survive and you will be glad you did.

I just love this article, @damiansessence! You capitalized on a topic angle that I have not come across before. I love how you are reminding us of the people behind the scenes, and the importance of giving them the recognition and thanks that they deserve. There are so many people who make there living in behind the scenes jobs that go overlooked every day. Why not take a moment to look for an opportunity to give thanks, as you have done here?
