Sela Fit Wants To Bring More Size Inclusivity To Activewear

in fashion •  7 years ago

The fashion industry is making moves towards size inclusivity—rather than continue segregating plus-size and “straight size” labels, brands are increasingly offering an inclusive range of sizes. Take for example J.Crew’s partnership with Universal Standard announced earlier this year, which will expand the brand's size range from XXS up to 5X.

Jenny Gresla, founder of inclusively-sized activewear brand Sela Fit, stumbled into the size inclusivity movement somewhat unintentionally. “I knew what I wanted the brand to stand for, but I didn't realize or plan for it to align so well with what's currently going on,” she says.

Like a lot of founders, Gresla started her company to solve for a personal need that she didn’t feel was currently being catered to by existing brands. “In my mid-20s I ended up putting on a good amount of weight in a short period of time,” she says. While trying to get back into a healthy routine, she found herself faced with a frustrating challenge—she couldn’t find activewear clothes that fit her. “The realization hit me that a lot of other women are going through what I'm going through and feel the way that I feel,” she says. “Throughout this whole process I've learned there are so many other women who have felt the same way at some point in their lives—it was comforting to know that I wasn't the only one out there experiencing this.”

This June, Gresla, a first-time business owner, launched Sela Fit, an inclusive activewear line that ranges from XS-3X. Below, she discusses the size inclusivity movement and being a first time founder.
