Throughout the history of man, beards have played a very integral part. From the various religions, to men of war beards have been an indicator of strength and leadership.
Although, beards haven't always been in favor. It was the past 100 years or so that we saw a shift into the shaving trend. With the rise of Gillette and the advent of modern warfare, beards became taboo. Even countries like Russia started to put bans on beards and required men to buy a token to keep their beard.
If anyone is ever questions your beard growing desires - you can point out the historical aspect of your decision.
