Afternoon Steemers,

Last night all I wanted was a Dirty Kebab. I know most people would turn their nose up at a kebab, even when drunk. I have to say however, there is nothing like a takeaway on a Sunday night when you can’t be bothered to cook. Plus the fact I had just done a 3 hour journey across the country. I was really looking forward to it. The guys down the road do the best and they always cater to my needs. Thanks guys!

Doner and Kofte Kebab

This is what I had last night. You might think something is missing here and you’d be right. I always have my kebab without the pitta. Why? It’s because I stay away from carbs! Now I know you all might be thinking ’Seriously, if you’re going to have a kebab, why bother worrying about the carbs?' My answer is that if I can shave off just a little bit off the carbs, it will still work out in the long run. I hate having a bloated carb belly! So I choose to have doner and kofte. The doner meat is sooooo juicy! I love the flavour of the lamb doner. It tastes really rich. I don’t know how to describe the flavour or even know what’s in it. I don’t want to know what’s in it if truth be told. All I know is that it tastes damn good! My kofte or as I call it at home ’poo kebab’ was a lot bigger that expected. It’s full of herbs and chilies. The meat has a wonderful charcoal singe on the outside. This really adds to the flavour. The meat is also moist as well. Nobody wants a dry kebab!

House Salad

You can’t have a kebab without salad. It’s one of your five a day! There has to be something healthy on the plate or box in this case. Plus you need something light to cut through the richness of all the meat. I opted for lettuce, cucumber, onion, tomato and pickled chillies! There is something about those chillies. I don’t like hot food, but these little green things aren’t as hot as expected. I really like biting the ends off and sucking out the chilli juices. I do like acidity. You can probably tell from the first picture that I asked them for extra lettuce and cucumber. I find they really add a lot of freshness to the dish, making room for more meat!

Garlic Mayo

I love garlic! I’d have garlic with everything if I could. This garlic mayo has some herbs and seasoning in it and isn’t too thick. It has a consistency of natural yoghurt. I think the herbs are mint. It does have a cool yoghurty, minty, garlic taste! I really love this. It goes so well with the lamb. I smother my meat in the garlic mayo. I just can’t get enough of the stuff. I wish they would bottle it as it tastes much better than anything you get on the shelves.

1000 Island

I’m not satisfied with just the one pot of sauce, so I opt for the 1000 island too. It has a lovely prawn pink colour, although I don’t think my camera managed to capture it in it’s glory. The thousand island has a sweet tang to it. I find some 1000 island sauces taste quite vinegary. This one doesn’t. It’s light and creamy. I like to mix it in with my salad and then add the rest to the remaining meat.

After reading this, you probably think I am a pig! I can’t help it! I love my food! Last night was definitely my cheat day! Back to eating healthy and exercising. I don’t find constantly living a healthy lifestyle is good for the mind or the soul. What’s the point in living if we can’t all indulge now and then? Monday - Friday are my ‘clean days’ , weekends are my cheat days! I’m fit and healthy and I look good. So if I’m gonna eat my own weight in junk food, then I will! Happy days!!!
