This is my first post. This week I will post my experiences during a 5 day water fast...

Hello Steemians... I'm just figuring out how to use this wonderful site so apologies if things aren't going to be perfect for a while. I'm trying. I was going to upload instructions for a super gluten-free, keto pastry pork pie today but I can't figure out the whole process yet. So I just thought I would introduce myself and mention the 5 day water fast I'm doing this week. I will probably finish on Friday about 6pm. I will post everyday and see if anyone is interested.

Hello Peter, I've resteemed and followed you :)

Interesting to see how the water fast goes. I've given up having breakfasts for the last 2 months (except 3 cups of tea) and as well as cutting out bulk carbs (I love bread ;) lost roughly 1.5 stone in 7 weeks (I'm down to 15st 8.5lb).

I have a friend who's youngest daughter has celiac disease and so is 100% gluten free. Although my friend has been tested and doesn't have it, he's found having a gluten free diet has improved his overall health and quelled and lot of his stomach/toilet issues.

Any hoo, I'm rambling on here LOL

Welcome to steemit :)

Thanks, eggmeister. Pleased to hear you're doing well. I've been low carb healthy fat for about a year. I'm down to about 11 stone and feeling great. One of my grandkids is gluten intolerant so he's pleased my wife and I make gluten free, keto-friendly pastry. I now believe a lot of people, if not visibly intolerant of gluten, ie wheat products in general, will have relatively hidden issues with wheat. The book, Wheat Belly, by Dr. William Davis is quite shocking. Of course, one should not just 'believe' anything one reads but it seems the real scientific evidence is accumulating and it in general is not in favour of wheat products. However the prevailing paradigm is in favour of 'healthy grains'. Most doctors have very little nutritional training and generally give out government guidelines which are mostly out of date. All the best, hope to speak again. Good luck with your journey, because that is what it is. Peter

Hi Peter,
It wouldn't surprise me regarding wheat, I'm wondering (coming from a novice bushcrafter) that we probably should adopt to some degree, a more 'cave man' foraging style diet. Sea-weed, shell-fish, game, wild greens (Burdock, Nettles, Cat-tails, etc.), nuts, seeds & berries. I think I'll be OK with all that, apart from mussels, limpets, cockles, etc. as I'm a bit wimpy when it comes to that stuff LOL.

Also, not ruling out the medicinal benefits of certain mushrooms (e.g. Birch Polypore), Plaintain, Dandelion (the roots, according to one study on a US .gov web site have cancer-killing properties).

Hi Egg, all sounds good. Check out Dr. Mercola's site and his videos on YouTube. His book 'Fat for fuel' is also very good. Basically the ketogenic lifestyle is an updated cave man diet...

Hi Peter, I'll defo check the Doc out, thank you :)
Fat n protein for me, who needs carbs anyway? LOL

So far today all I've eaten is a small handful of mixed nuts mid morning and large tin baked beans and 2 microwave/scrambled eggs for lunch (probs 600 cals).

good luck with your fast! I am also experimenting with my eating habits and have started doing some version of a fast every 4th week of the month. Following and resteeming!

Thanks barracuda. I've been low carb, moderate protein, high good fat, for about a year. Never felt better, lost a stone and a half. Doing really well. Will do a 5 day water fast probably twice a year, then keep Mondays light, not eating before lunch, keto all week then 'feast' at the weekend. Good luck, it's an interesting journey but beware of most medical advice. Most Doctors have had zero nutritional training even though Hippocrates, the father of medicine, said 'food is medicine'. It's changing slowly. Lots of new research out there. Fat has been wrongly demonised for 50 years for instance. PJ
