"Internet: The Last Bastion of Free Speech!

When the Founders brought forth on this continent our Constitution, they never considered, with nearly two hundred independent newspapers in the new states of our still small nation, that diversity of opinion would ever be a problem.

Yet the last 100 years have seen the growth of a corporate media that now has far too much power over the dissemination of public opinion in this nation. 6 companies now control our newspapers, magazines, television and radio as sources of news and political comment. As yet they have little control over what remains as the last bastion of individual and independent thought in our global world: The Internet.

But they are trying to change that.

Net Neutrality is essential to free speech, equal opportunity and economic innovation in America. Since the FCC removed this basic protection in 2005, the top executives of phone and cable companies have stated their intention to become the Internet's gatekeepers and to discriminate against web sites that don't pay their added tolls.

This fundamental change would end the open Internet as we know it. It would damage our ability to connect with others, share information and participate in our 21st century democracy and economy. The FCC must ensure that broadband providers do not block, interfere with or discriminate against any lawful Internet traffic based on its ownership, source or destination."
