Jesus and the two thieves: Don't you fear God even when you have been sentenced to die? Luke 23:40

The gospel of Luke teaches the importance of the gift of fear of God when Jesus is crucified along with two thieves in a place called the Skull. The gift of fear of God is defined as constancy, firmness, devotion, equanimity, and stability.
According to the teachings of Jesus, this gift is the beginning of spiritual life for man, because without this gift what remains is the love of money, that is, idolatry. The fear of God in the parable of the sower is the good soil on which the seed falls, without the fear of God, the word, that is the seed cannot take root; and an example of this was the rich young man who could not follow Jesus for love of riches. The faith without the fear of God is a faith without works, a faith of masks and appearances; a faith if it could be called in this way, "according to the flesh".
Jesus relates the gospel of Luke, was crucified with two thieves, one of them feared God and the other did not, and that is why one of the two in the last moment of his life was able to achieve forgiveness of sins and salvation.
With these words, the gospel recounts the dialogue and agony of Jesus on the cross with the damned:
"One of the criminals hanging beside him scoffed, ´So you're the Messiah, are you? Prove it by saving yourself—and us, too, while you're at it!´
But the other criminal protested, ´Don't you fear God even when you have been sentenced to die? We deserve to die for our crimes, but this man hasn't done anything wrong.´Then he said, ´Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.´
And Jesus replied, ´I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.´" Luke 23:39-43.
The Lord with his mercy (compassion, kindness, gentleness) is always willing to forgive, but men must first of all be willing to accept it moved by the reverential fear, this is why some are saved and others are not, as Jesus taught with the good thief.
